GAME DAY vs. FAU

USF will look to bounce back from a hard day at No. 7 Notre Dame when the Bulls travel three and a half hours south to Boca Raton to face former USF head coach Willie Taggart (2013-16) and FAU in their first game of the season. FAU had to cancel its previously scheduled season debut at Georgia Southern last week due to COVID-19 issues. A myriad of staff connections will be prevalent as USF plays in Boca for the first time since a 35-23 victory in 2007. FAU is slated to return the game in Tampa to open the 2026 season.

MAKING HISTORY X 3: Three games, three history makers. USF posted the first victory of head coach Jeff Scott’s career in the opener, played the first nonconference game in the 132-season history of Notre Dame football in game 2, and Saturday is believed to be the first time three current or former head coaches of the same program will meet in a coaching capacity on the same field. First-year USF head coach Jeff Scott will look across to the opposite sideline at former USF head coaches Jim Leavitt (FAU defensive coordinator) and Willie Taggart (1st season FAU head coach).

C-USA: USF was a member of Conference USA for two seasons from 2003-04 (prior to FAU’s entrance) and posted an 8-8 conference mark in its first FBS conference.

YOUNG COORDINATORS GUIDE OFFENSES: USF offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. is the youngest coordinator in the nation at age 27. He was the youngest FBS coordinator ever when he was hired for the same position at FAU in 2018 at age 24. FAU offensive coordinator Clint Trickett is 29 and ranks among the top 10 youngest coordinators in the nation. There are seven coordinators under 30 currently in FBS football.

FORD FUSION: 5-5 Johnny Ford has been the most explosive member of the USF offense to date after posting a 42-yard carry at Notre Dame last Saturday and a 43-yard run vs. The Citadel. Ford leads USF with 141 yards rushing yards and is posting 9.4 yards per carry.
