Alright Green and Gold, puff out your chest.  Great weekend all around!

Friday

The volleyball team gave a sneak preview of the following evening's festivities with a 3-1 victory over UCF.  Kristina Fabris played her best match of the year with 22 kills on 41 attacks with just 4 errors, and tossed in a team high 16 digs.  They looked like the Bulls of old, which should give some needed momentum for Big East play.  Freshman setter Kate Verhoff is going to be an outstanding player for the Bulls for a long time, and it looked like this team is starting to gel.  If they can play consistently and limit the errors, they can still have a very good year.

Follow that with the first ever BIG EAST contest for the Bulls, men's soccer vs. #16 Seton Hall.  It might be the most exciting conference game USF plays for a long time.  With the Bulls down 2-0, a red card on the Pirates brings them down to 10 men with 29 minutes remaining.  A quick USF goal in the 86th minute excites the crowd, and after multiple chances in the final few minutes, the green and gold are rewarded via a penalty kick with just 19 seconds remaining.  Rodrigo Hidalgo capitalizes, sending the match into a golden goal overtime.

At that point it was just a matter of when, not if the Bulls would win.  Two minutes into the extra session Sammy Castellanos fired a Hidalgo drop pass deep into the Seton Hall net.  3-2, Bulls win.  Might end up being the USF contest of the year across all sports.  What a game.

Women's soccer loses 4-1 at #17 Marquette.  Hey nothing in life is perfect.

Saturday... Owned and 17.  Enough said.

Sunday

The men's soccer team controlled the tempo and pace at all levels against #21 Georgetown with a 3-1 victory.  Despite not having their best striker, Hunter West, all weekend, the Bulls knocked off two ranked conference opponents.  Welcome to the BIG EAST.

The second match of the doubleheader saw the women's team take on North Florida.  The Bulls controlled the run of play for the first 89 minutes, but were unable to find the Osprey net.  That changed with less than 30 seconds remaining in the match.  Bulls senior Katie Reed was brought down outside the area, and Danielle Malkin capitalized with a beautiful free kick past the UNF wall and an outstretched goalkeeper.  Bulls win 1-0.  USF has yet to concede a goal this year at home, and are 4-2 overall.

Overall, USF goes 5-1 this weekend, two wins over UCF, and two over ranked teams.  Cue the fight song here, followed by everyone putting up their horns as the band plays that #8 song everyone loves.

GO BULLS!!

now how great would it have been for soccer if they hadnt let the earlier games with SMU and New Mexico(?) slip away.  The 3-3 overall record is painful, but the 2-0 start in BE play is a great way to start conference play.  if ther is something to take from the losses it is that at least they were in the games, SMU loss was in OT and the other two were only one goal games.  now just dont collapse down the stretch like last year
