Hall, Nicholas Named to Street & Smith's College Football All-Big East Team (June 23, 2005) Tampa, Fla. - USF's Andre Hall and Stephen Nicholas have been named to preseason all-Big East team in the Street & Smith's College Football 2005 Yearbook.

Hall, a senior running back from St. Petersburg, Fla., established a new single season rushing record at USF last season with 1,357 yards, including games of 275 and 200 yards. He also set new records for rushing touchdowns with 11 and total touchdowns with 12.

Nicholas, a junior linebacker from Jacksonville, Fla., enters his third season as a starter and is USF's top returning tackler with 97 stops a year ago. He was on the 2004 Butkus Award Watch List as a sophomore, and he will likely be listed again this season.

USF enters its debut season in the BIG EAST in 2005 after two years in Conference USA. USF began its program in 1997 and quickly grew from a I-AA Independent to BCS status in eight seasons.

A lot of the top OL from last year left the BE so I was rather shocked that Frank Davis, or Chris Carothers didn't make the 1st team.

Chris missed three games last year due to injury but had started every game as a RS-Freshman, and soph.  Is it any coincidence that when Chris was injured was during our three game losing streak against Army, USM, and UL.  Obviously Chris couldn't have tackled Carlton Jones, but he might have helped to maintain a few drives.  The kid has started 30 out of 33 games in his career at USF, and the three he was out were due to injury!

Why would you be shocked?  We had one of the leading rushers in the nation last year and he averaged 6.5 ypc. ( that was tops among top 20 rushers in the nation). The OL HAD TO HAVE SOMETHING DO TO WITH IT!!!!!

Not shockingly, for you to diss the OL is par for the course.  Last year our OL surrendered only 20 sacks for the year, and some of those were directly related to problems at the QB position.  For example they surrendered 29 in 03', and 24 in 02'.  Our OL played very well last year, now our DL on the other hand....

Also, as far as Chris Carother's credentials when he got hurt we surrendered zero sacks against TTU, only one sack against USC, and he left in the first half of TCU when we had only surrender two sacks.  Chris was gone the second half of TCU, USM, Army, and UL, during that span we surrendered 13 of our 20 sacks.  Upon Chris' return we subsequently shut out UAB, and ECU from sacks, surrendered three to Cinci (which had two NFL draft pick DE's), then shut out Memphis, and only gave up one against Pitt!!!

Given Chris' starting credentials, and the facts about his playing he deserved consideration for first team.

Nicholas, greatest USF LB ever?

To early to call.  Kawika Mitchell & Maurice Jones weren't to shabby.
