June 24, 2005 Sadiaa Jones has been named an assistant coach for the Yellow Jacket women's basketball team, Georgia Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph announced Friday. Jones will be primarily responsible for assisting with recruiting and the development of the Yellow Jacket guards while serving as the academic liaison for the team. "I am excited about the opportunity to hire someone like Sadiaa," Joseph said, "and it is a pleasure to bring another member to my staff with such a great work ethic and tremendous character. With her experience and contacts as the recruiting coordinator at South Florida, she will be a great asset to our staff." Jones spent the last season as an assistant coach at South Florida, where she was responsible for recruiting, game preparation and breakdown, team community service and working with academic advisors and professors on the academic performance of the women's basketball players. She was in her second stint with the Bulls program last year, after serving in the same capacity from 2000-02. South Florida went 21-10 in 2004-05, including an appearance in the WNIT, where they fell to Wake Forest in the second round. Prior to her return to USF, Jones spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Illinois-Chicago, during which the Flames were a combined 29-27. While at UIC, Jones helped the Flames to a second-place Horizon League finish in 2003 and their highest win total since the mid-1990's, with an overall mark of 17-11 and an 11-5 record in league play. A native of Elk City, Okla., Jones earned her bachelors degree in health physical education recreation and a minor in communications from Southeastern Oklahoma State, where she averaged over 10 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a senior while earning all-conference honors in 1998 and 1999. Jones is replacing Art PreVost, who leaves the program after two seasons as an assistant coach. "With the addition of Sadiaa, along with the experience of Seth (Kushkin) and Sytia (Messer), I feel like we have one of the most well-rounded staffs in the ACC, and I am just excited about the opportunity to work with them," said Joseph.
