Seven of the Golden Eagles' starters drove in at least one run for the third-seeded Golden Eagles (41-18), who earned a rematch today with No. 2 seed TCU. The Horned Frogs, unbeaten in the tournament, need just one win against once- beaten Southern Miss to advance to the winner-take-all championship game Sunday. TCU beat the Golden Eagles 8-0 on Thursday night. Southern Miss took command in the first inning, using RBI singles by Marc Maddox and Steele and a run-producing passed ball to take a three-run lead and then making it 4-0 an inning later when Chris Matesich scored on Joey Angelberger's error. Angelberger hit a three-run homer in the third to pull South Florida to 4-3. But the Bulls couldn't score again, and Southern Miss pulled away with two runs in both the fifth and sixth. Elimination from these tournaments and not getting into the NCAA's just sucks. Now we've got to wait out these 90+ for the first football game. Famine! The search for a replacement will begin immediately. "We would like to thank Karen for all she has done on behalf of the Florida softball program - she is a wonderful person that truly cared about the Gators. We wish her the best in her future endeavors," said Foley. "But after an honest and open evaluation of the program, it became evident that this program was not achieving the success that we envisioned. I feel a change in leadership is necessary to have the Gator softball program be in a position to consistently rank among the nation's best." Johns took over the Gator softball program for the 2001 season. Florida registered 41 wins in each of the last three seasons, with the team achieving its best winning percentage under Johns of .672 (41-20) in 2004. Eight Gators have picked up a total of 12 All-SEC honors and five were named to National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast Region teams since 2001.There were allegations about sexual discrimination thatmay have played a part in the dismissal as well, but 41 wins three years in a row is not good enough in Gatorland.
