BIG EAST CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES HOME/AWAY LEAGUE OPPONENTS FOR THE 2005-06 SEASON

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST Conference has completed the home/away opponents for the 2005-06 women’s basketball season, as announced by the league office. As of July 1, the BIG EAST Conference will grow to a 16-team league with the additions of the University of Cincinnati, DePaul University, the University of Louisville, Marquette University and the University of South Florida.

The new format for league play will be a 16-game schedule. Each team will play 16 Conference games – seven opponents home only, seven opponents away only and one opponent both home and away, a repeat opponent. Each member will have a total of eight home and eight away games.

Four BIG EAST teams were in the Associated Press and USA Today-ESPN-WBCA final polls. Rutgers advanced to the NCAA Championship Elite 8, and ended the season with the league’s highest ranking of No. 9/7. Rutgers will face Connecticut as its repeat opponent. The Huskies were ranked No. 10/10 after bowing out of the NCAA Championship in the Sweet 16. Notre Dame, ranked No. 11/15 at the season’s end, will face new member DePaul, a constant in the top 25 during the 2004-05 season. Both teams advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship.

I really wish the men had just 1 mirror game so we played every team every year like the women.

From the SID's office today:

http://gobulls.usf.edu/Sports/News.asp?i=1637&s=Basketball

UConn, Notre Dame, and Louisville on the road.. piece of cake!  Also Rutgers and DePaul at home, so I guess this BIG EAST thing is going to be pretty easy.  We're also playing LSU away and Michigan State at the Dome out of conference, who both made it to the Final Four last year.  What's with the cupcake scheduling by women's basketball?  You expect to only play MOST of the Top 10 and have a decent strength of schedule?

:)

It looks like we have a pretty balanced conference Home and Away schedule:

H 1. Rutgers 14-2, 28-7 (Elite 8 )

A 2. Connecticut 13-3, 25-8 (Sweet 16)

A 3. Notre Dame 13-3 27-6 (NCAA 2nd round)

H 4. DePaul 13-1, 25-4 (NCAA 2nd round)

A 5. Louisville 11-3, 22-8 (NCAA 1st round)

H 6. West Virginia 7-9, 21-13 (WNIT final)

- 7t. South Florida 9-5, 20-10 (WNIT 2nd round)

A 7t. St. John's 7-9, 20-11 (WNIT 2nd round)

H 9t. Marquette 8-6, 18-11 (WNIT 1st round)

H 9t. Villanova 10-6, 19-12 (WNIT 1st round)

A 11. Seton Hall 6-10, 14-14

HA 12. Pittsburgh 5-11,13-15

H 13. Syracuse 4-12, 13-16

A 14. Georgetown 7-9, 12-16

A 15. Cincinnati 4-10, 9-19

H 16. Providence 0-16, 1-27

PS I got those WL from the rutger's board. Since we were actually 21-11 maybe they didn't include post season games in the W/L column. I didn't check.

It's good that Rutgers and UConn are in alternating years. That way we will always have a marquee WBB home game. Those are two of the top programs nationally. Plus the LSU type OOC games will be good too.

Great things are afoot.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
