Three USF Players Get Invites To NFL Minicamps

A Tribune staff, wire report

TAMPA - While no South Florida players were selected in the NFL draft, three Bulls - offensive tackle Derrick Sarosi, long snapper Justin Daniel and running back Clenton Crossley - were invited to NFL minicamps Monday.  

Sarosi (Atlanta), Daniel (New York Giants) and Crossley (Washington) will report to their respective minicamps hoping to earn a free-agent contract. On Sunday, offensive tackle Levi Newton signed a free-agent contract with Detroit.  

Sarosi was only the second USF offensive lineman to start all 44 games in his career.  

``I was worried when the draft came and went and then Levi got a call 30 seconds afterwards,'' Sarosi said. ``I figured they were done [inviting players] Sunday. You could say this news made my day.''  

Daniel came to USF as a center but took over for former Tampa Bay Buc Ryan Benjamin and started four seasons.  

``I'm excited,'' Daniel said. ``I can't wait. All you need is that one chance.''  

Crossley finished his career as the Bulls' No. 2 all-time leading rusher.  

``Just to get a foot in the door, that's all you're looking for,'' Crossley said. ``The only bad thing is it's not in full pads, so I can't show what all I can do.''
