Bulls QB hopeful out with bad ankle

South Florida's spring quarterback competition is missing a challenger this week, with sophomore Courtney Denson sidelined by an ankle injury he suffered in Saturday's scrimmage.

Coach Jim Leavitt said Denson could return to practice Friday and participate in Saturday's scrimmage, but junior Pat Julmiste and walk-on Anthony Severino split the snaps Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sophomore linebacker Ben Moffitt injured his ankle Saturday and will miss the rest of spring practice.

"Ben has had a tremendous spring," Leavitt said.

Leavitt said he has no interest in bringing in linebacker Taurean Charles, dismissed by Florida last week due to off-field problems.

Even if former Bulls star Brian Fisher resolves his legal and academic problems, he would not necessarily have a spot on USF's fall roster, Leavitt said. Fisher has a $7,000 warrant out for his arrest after missing two court appearances in the past three weeks.

USF will hold its spring football clinic Friday and Saturday, with Tampa Bay Bucs defensive line coach Rod Marinelli among the guest speakers. Players interested in participating may contact the USF football office at (813) 974-7170.

I can't wait to see Denson play & see what he's made out of. I hope PJ steps it up as well. But  Fisher Is such a fu--ing idiot...  He coulda had it all.

Does anybody know if this Saturday's scrimmage will be open to the public?

In some past years the public attended. Last year, I believe, only family members of the team were allowed.

The scrimmage IMO is much more exciting than the spring game.

It will be ok in the fall as I have said one of the fresh.either Hill or Grothe will step up and lead the team!!
