  1. He is not an alumnus. The class of 56 award is like an honorary title. Its for friends of the university. He has a vested interest in the school growing and being strong as he has invested a ton in downtown and was pivotal in getting the usf presence built up in downtown tampa.
  2. Three years from mid 2022 announcement would track with 2026. Figuring that 2022 announcement would include location, cost, official drawings, etc. You would get permits/approvals/funding in the next 6-12 months, bringing you to mid to late 2023 for groundbreaking/start. 1-2 years to complete build gets you to 2025 in season at earliest/extreme best case, 2026 best case/more likely, 2027 as a most reasonable date. If this admin really pulls off a $300m+ facility, it would erase the past 12 years of mismanagement- strong, holtz, woolard, genshaft, all of it would be forgotten. Im cautiously optimistic, but if this happens it would be a massive accomplishment. We are talking about something that would transform the campus and university. Total game changer. On the flip side, if this goes nowhere they may as well pack it in- no turning back from this commitment.
  3. It looks like the dline will graduate. The oline is back. Our LB’s grier and boiles are back. Vincent davis and lapointe are back. There is a lot of depth players back as super sr’s. Scott is hitting the portal hard, some of these returners who were key starters will have to either develop more, or become backups. For instance, the oline is ok now. If two current backups develop and displace these returners, thats now a top unit in the aac. It makes Timmy better, who then makes the wr’s better. The same on defense, bring back a ton of starters, then get a few portal guys to make these returning starters backups. We get what was our top cb back from a torn acl also. Defense should be competent as long as spencer isnt there to screw it up. On the flip side, if the hope is to return all these guys and hope for massive leaps in ability from them next year, we are in deep doodoo. I am jaded from 19 years of “next year” with usf football, but for the first time in years it looks like we have a coach who is building a roster to win for years instead of a one or two year fix.
  4. No, 16 seniors are returning. He spoke to them already and gave them the choice- they all said they wanted to be a part of next year. They did not participate in senior night. The ones leaving were honored on senior night. I think there were 9 leaving. We have other juniors and below hitting the portal so there will be attrition. In all its pretty huge that he has buy in like this. We have come a long way from dealing with tantrums from Nick Roberts and Johnny Ford on the sideline.
  5. In the possible win column- cinci has no ridder coming back. Smu graduates its qb ad some of its better offensive players. Florida is going to be a mess. They probably fire their coach, and will lose one (or both depending how bad it gets) of those QB’s. We are returning the entire offense. Will probably replace 2-3 starters on offense with players who are better than whats there now. If that defense can be top 70 in the country this team will make serious noise. 6 wins should be the floor for this team. 10 should be a surprise for us, but not a shocker. Its totally possible to catch Florida or more likely Louisville looking past us.
  6. Are you saying Scott is the issue? Its clear the guy is going to succeed here. He has come in and recruited players on offense. Mcclain, Horn, dollison, holden willis showed he can play today. Spencer was a bad hire. Scott will drop him. But look at his other hires, weiss, mogridge, simms, bj daniels, the staff is looking solid. Defense will get better with these transfers and we probably will see one or two freshman who are not playing now take a leap next year. The entire offense returns. Hopefully healthy Latrell Williams. Kwan powell healthy. We have depth at qb. This team with a true freshman QB is putting up28 points a game. The outlook is good for next year. The expectation for next year realistically should be 8-10 wins and in the hunt for the championship game late in the season.
  7. Brightside of this could be with the coming playoff expansion, this is an easier route in. To be honest, the new B12 teams are going to be middle of the road teams like we were with the Big East. With the new AAC the expectation should be a conf title every year and with good scheduling consistent contention for the G5 playoff spot. As a fanbase, we think extremely highly of ourselves, when in reality the best description of this program is "Eh/good". No championships, a history of choking away winnable games that could have won us championships, and fans who harp on #2 like UCF harps on their national title. Realistic outlook for the next 5 years, and its not a bad one, would be: 1. Announce an OCS this year to be completed in 4-5 years. 2. Win 6-8 games NEXT year. (2022 Season) Start season at least 2-2 or hopefully 3-1 with wins over BYU, Howard, and Louisville. 3. Start 2023 season 3-1 with a close/non blowout bama loss. Win the new AAC. Finish year ranked in top 20 4. 2024 season starts with Louisville, NC State, Bama, WKU, win 3/4 and dont get blown out by Bama. Win AAC (dont lose a conf game). This should get us in the top 15 to end the year, that gets you in an expanded playoff if its there. 5. 2025 Is the year we play Boise, UF, Miami and SJSU. This is a year we could go 4-0 to start the year, and again win AAC without losing a conference game- puts you right in the playoff picture. Hope academics have grown to AAU status. This rolls right into a future expansion timeline. Do the above, or close to it and you cant be denied an upgraded conference invite. If the program is not succesful by this time, then USF is a failed football program and everyone needs to accept that we are an AAC level team, and lucky to be that.
  8. The more I read this thread, the more aware I become that as fans we are in the bargaining stage of grief. So many "Connected" people with "inside info" on how we are getting a shiny new stadium! I didn't realize that everyone on this board had insiders embedded in the athletics department who share confidential info with them. Its nice to have hope. But there is no way that this program, after YEARS of not being able to get out of their own way, is suddenly going to be able to throw together a plan to, fund, design, and build a stadium in a matter of months for completion in 3-5 years. We have people on this board seriously believing that an invite from the AAU is coming, followed by one from the B1G! Seriously take a step back and think of that. How hard was it for this school to become "pre-eminent"? Does anybody remember how the state legislature tried their best to stop that from happening? Do you remember that we had USF Lakeland taken from us and converted into a ghost town Poly school by the state? Now we think that the state reps who did that hatchet job on USF are going to turn around and do all they can to help USF get into a better conference (B1G) than FSU and Miami? There is no way on earth any of this is going to happen.
  9. The other aspect here is that Fowler is a mess. They have big plans to build a mixed use complex out of the university mall skeleton, and I think it will look good when finally finished- I am thinking they may be able to pull something off like the new mixed use area just built on Dale Mabry/275. If they can locate this stadium on the frontage of Fowler, either on the corner of Fowler and Bruce B Downs or Fowler Fields, it would go a long way in helping the "look" of that area. Revitalizing that part of Tampa should be a huge priority for the city. I cant see how USF does not get the county/city involved in the planning and buildout of this. There is a HUGE potential to transform the area with this project. If they can do half of what they did with Seminole Heights/Riverwalk/Armature works with this area it would be a HUGE success for the city.
  10. Aside from being able to keep all money from concessions, tickets, parking, merch, etc. there is another huge benefit of this stadium- We have tons of talented High School teams in the area. It would be huge to host one or two high level HS games a year- Imagine a Lakeland/Jesuit/IMG game at the new stadium. Or even making a bid to move the HS state championship games to a more central location like this. Putting something like that at RJS would look small and out of place, doing it at a newer, smaller field would have a better feel and look. The possible exposure to high level recruits locally would pay dividends- they would see a brand new stadium, IPF, and locker rooms. It would be like taking entire teams on an unofficial visit to the school. I have to believe that the additional revenue streams that would open up for USF would be enough to pay any debt incurred building the field.
  11. Last night sucked, the brightest spot of that game was when McClain came in and scrambled for some first downs. The guy looks like a grown man, and his confidence shows. He is not in the mold of our QB's in the past 2-3 years. You can tell he is a gem that needs some polishing, but watching him this season- if the staff is smart enough to use him- will be the bright spot fans need to get us through the season. If this athletics staff was smart, they would ease him into the UF game, then roll with him for the rest of the season. They also need to market the hell out of him. Having a young exciting QB with talent will put people in seats, and bring recruits in. The only thing that will save this team is a player with some swagger that other players can get behind and emulate. We had it for two years with Mack, Adams, MVS, Flowers, Mccants... Once you lose that confidence the whole thing falls apart. Fortin is was bad last night. Maybe he can play better, but I like the idea of rolling with a guy who chose us from the start instead of a transfer. This will send a message to other players that if you come to USF, you will play if you have the talent.
  12. I usually think all the "insider info" here is bs, but maybe you have something...
  13. Not sure you want to put a 5-9 165 pound 18 year old out there to return punts. He would be an open target any time he does not fair catch- potential to get erased or a fumble is way more than the benefit of taking one to the house. Tyre can make people miss, and more importantly he is going to secure the ball and can take a hit.
  14. @rodney_adams87: Getting my LeBRon James on @KingJames http://t.co/QGJCwCnS76 Taggart has these kids soft. We got players more excited to check Twitter after games than executing in them. Maybe Adams catches that long pass where he is wide open we have a different outcome.
  15. Cook beat us like we were out at a tally bar on a Saturday night!
  16. Aikens drops one, and you put him at the end of the wr rotation. QF missed at least a half dozen wide open receivers, doesn't even get the ball close. Where does that put him in the rotation? I thought that would leave you speechless. Lol I am on my phone. I edited the post. But you have to admit, that drop was horrendous. At WR at least we have options. Plays like that one were the norm last 3 years, gotta make an example of him.
  17. Aikens drops one, and you put him at the end of the wr rotation. QF missed at least a half dozen wide open receivers, doesn't even get the ball close. Where does that put him in the rotation? It's really pick your poison with out QB choices. Flowers is not accurate, but he was shifty, and got out of 4-5 sure sacks. Bench is accurate, but he is not as shifty and more prone to duck down and take a sack. All in all if be fine with either. Looking at our situation from a top level it is looking pretty great- should get 6+ wins this year including rivalry game with UCF, then we are set up for next year with Woulard at the helm. Team is young and looking dangerous. Only worry we have is when a p5 team poaches Allen at the end of the season.
  18. If aikens catches that ball in the 4th qtr on 3rd and 7 it's a totally different game. That drop was unacceptable. Hopefully that puts him at the end of the wr rotation. Other than that considering we were down 2-4 lb's it was a great game by usf! For once I can go about my Saturday without a disgusted feeling about my school!
  19. I know I'm a bit late, but I was at the game and re-watched it also. I know one thing for sure, outside of the first 10 minutes or so there was progress over the past 3-4 years. -Not a bunch of false start/ delay of game garbage. -the offense, while pretty vanilla looked competent, I did t see many dropped passes like years before. -I see a bunch of hungry players, excited on the sidelines. - after a big defensive play, I think it was one of hectors sacks, I saw Allen run over to taggart and give a flying chest bump. Good to see something like that, it's been lacking since JL has been gone. I can handle losses, as long as the team and coaches do not beat themselves. That's all I got, im going back to lurking in the shadows.
  20. I could be wrong, but I would think the TV deal is on hold at the moment pending whatever happens next in realignment. The BE is almost definitely going to lose at least 1 more team here pretty soon. no way there is a tv deal now there is no big east conference I understand that there is no deal now. But teams leavimg to go to the ACC are going into a deal that is valid until 2027. The fact that there is no BE contract could be a strength. The remaining ACC schools IF FSU, CU, VT, VA, and GT, are not football ppwerhouses... It would serve them well to explore the BE and negotiate a stronger deal - especially the basketball side, it would be the best in the nation hands down. Those ACC leftovers need most if not all of the remaing BE AND more to even look like an attractive conference. And again, they are stuck in a contract till 2027. Boise, UC, USF, UCF, UL, UH, SMU are all argueably as good as or better that the remaining ACC football teams. IF ESPN is in Swoffords ear telling him about potential teams to add, they realize that the ACC is just as close to irrelevance as the BE. I think its going to come down to a deathmatch between the two of them, and the lack of a deal is actually a strength for the BE.
  21. If the ACC may lose 4-6 teams, I would think the better option to the remaining ACC teams would be to beg the BE for admission. BE is getting a new tv deal and ACC is stuck with theirs till 2027. If the teams mentioned (NC, VA, VT, FSU, CU, and GT) GTFO, id say Duke, BC, UM, SU, Pitt, Wake, NC state < UL, UConn, USF, UC, Boise, UCF, and Houston. Along with the weaker BE teams they could probably get a nice TV deal and give the finger to ESPN.
  22. Lets give them a break, they are on a 3 win team getting crushed against a team they played close the year before. Seeing Holtz fumble and chuckle before halftime, I dont blame any of these players for giving up. Any other coach would be foaming at the mouth angry if their team wasted 27 seconds on the 4 yard line right before the half. Skip sets the example that the team follows. I imagine all the players feel trapped at this point. Holtz basically ruined Lindsay Lamars future by not giving him a real shot at rb until 4 games into his senior year. These kids are stuck with a classic coaches son leading their team, and are now a laughingstock. A player like Ryne Giddens dosent just turn bad overnight- he is a product of his environment.
  23. Is anyone else worried that what looks to be our offense for next year played tonight, they looked horrible. This preview was against one of the worst defenses in the country this year. Im thinking that we will be lucky to win 2 games next year. Other than complete incompetence managing a game, Skip has failed to get anything resembling a D1 QB in here. Price, Montgomery, and Davis could all be the next Jerry Rice and it wouldnt make a difference. That is probably the biggest reason to get rid of him.
