Not only is nothing close to over, but seeing this kind of reporting out really strongly indicates to me that Colorado is not the front runner for Sanders.
I think it’s obvious this story came from the Colorado side, not Deion’s team, given the framing, given the reporter (PAC-12 partner ESPN), which isn’t something you would need to leak if you believe you are in a position of strength. If Colorado thought they were the front runner for Sanders, then they wouldn’t need to leak that they offered him a contract and are waiting on him.
The only reason Deion would leak this would be to get his preferred team to up their offer. It would be a leverage play with someone else. Otherwise, what, he’s negotiating with his preferred future employer (this would be assuming he wants Colorado) through the press? That’s not a good way to start a professional relationship.
The framing of this report makes me feel stronger about our chances with Sanders, and I don’t think that’s an unreasonable take once you analyze this reporting from all possible angles.
