  1. That industrial spur is only there at this point because of the Yuengling Brewery, and the miniscule possibility of light rail, which would have to be a dead end spur for MOSI/USF area or turn across Fowler and track onto campus somehow (not happening), since the easement essentially ends at 56th Street. That line used to punch through Busch Gardens and serviced many of the industries in the post-airfield era that relied on rail delivery. If Yuengling ever moved, the entire spur could be removed back to the north-south line that crosses Fowler parallel to Nebraska Ave. All the new development on the old airfield is more commercial or light industry anyways. The latest Google Maps update finally pushed recently (showing USF's athletics upgrades finally!) and the old airfield is virtually extinct save for a small portion. The north-south rail line leads south to the trainyards and main lines near 60/Selmon Connector, and the north line branches west along Busch to be Pinellas' lone rail line, and extends north up to Brooksville and some of the mines/quarries and then dead ends.
  2. "meeting the standards expected of a head coach" i hope i'm wrong, but that sounds like he was doinking someone he shouldn't have been, or something scandal-y.
  3. Tuned in for last 10 minutes of the 2nd half - didn't realize they were on TV and don't catch them often. Williams did her thing as usual it seems, but does the rest of the team suck that bad or was this a bad day? Some really sloppy play in the end, just not reminiscent of what I hear/read about this team, and does Williams always carry this team, or was this more of her going beast mode because of the need for a comeback? Tough loss, at least it's on the road. Just sucks they spent 3+ months kicking ass just to get a #25 ranking and now they'll likely be lucky to get a few receiving votes..
  4. Commish and some guys did a live mock twitter draft last night. i don't follow the draft much, but they had perriman going like 31st to the seahawks. so first round? maybe. but not 15th. amari cooper and there's 1 or 2 other guys who are beastly and will go ahead of him no matter what. kid is good, but the fact only the super stud WRs get even considered in the 1st round, it's not a high likely event he goes that high. 1st round is heavy on your BPA and lots of linemen and skilled defensive players. RBs and WRs galore in rounds 2-7. in the end, doesn't matter if he goes 1st or 224th or whatever, gotta prove yourself all over again on sundays.
  5. I squinted my eyes for some pattern there...came up empty. You have to squint like Jameis, then move your head back slowly, the magic picture appears. (it's a sailboat)
  6. Dennis Dodd must've inherited all of BMM's Outlook reminders to "follow up 5 years later" on the original story...ah, the followup "where are they now" article...that's like the FCS of journalism.
  7. I severely doubt job interviewers are prodding Joel about his personal past issues during college athletics. This isn't a whistleblower situation that would really draw anyones cares about their business beyond the fact they want to hear the story themselves or are linked to USF as a fan or alumni and just wanna know...shouldn't be brought up in a job interview, and I'd love to call him out on that even happening. It's not like Miller ended up with financial benefit or anything from this. If he were smart, he'd just pass on that question and roll out some "that's in the past, I'm interviewing because I'm focused on the future" line. If people actually ARE asking him this crap in job interviews, he's probably playing the victim card and being a whiny sourgrapes about it and potential employers are balking at his attitude and quick trigger to draw the sympathy card. And maybe it is just the simple fact that he's 26 and inexperienced out of college and has a degree that a million other people do. His dad is a real piece of work too, solid quote grab there, Dennis Dodd.
  8. Case-in-point: Pinellas County's all-time passing leader will be moving to WR for UCF next season. Former Dade County passing leader Jeff Godfrey finished his career at UCF at WR. HS records are useless. who is that? (the one moving to wr) holman? you guys have patti, holman, the smu kid harris, and the new bo kid from texas...must be nice.
  9. Funny part is all the sites are praising UF for CeCe Jefferson, I hear he isn't truly committed, no LOi, his dad saying too many coaches coming and going, may not be there in the end.
  10. They will move them if you're a UCF fan, but there's maybe 1-2 UCF guys (footnfan is one) who post pretty logically, but many of them are trolling or poking the bear. If you have 6 hours to waste, you can read the UCF Dumbgeon post in one of the other subforums, prepare to lose brain cells.
  11. Ironically we are all pointing out the geographical inaccuracies of a themed area inside a stadium, and yet we attend(ed) a university that was never truly geographically accurate, and became even less culturally/socially geographically accurate after the 1970s. BTW, surfing is definitely possible in some parts of the east coast of the state (and any area of the state's coasts when tropical storms are present), but I don't equate surfboards with Florida, or really any of the east coast of the United States. I usually think California, or Costa Rica or Hawaii.
  12. To me, academic success is your students graduating and going out into the real world and getting good jobs, making good money and giving back to the University. I agree. And I think both schools have improved that dramatically. USF has more medical stuff on the way, but that is an arms race I'm okay with happening, as it benefits many.
  13. Guy talks academic smack and then wants to believe that recruiting rankings mean jack squat.
  14. Even though it's common knowledge on this site, most articles I've seen don't even include non "power 5" teams so at least someone is still writing about us little guys.
  15. Must be a Walmart type IPF. Harlan said one costs around $40 mil ... I don't get Harlans number FSU and Florida only spent $15 mil. In the "arms race" we may be forced to build one. I think it was not long after he got here and he probably wasn't that familiar with them considering, I assume, that UCLA had zero need or interest in one ... And wasn't it 14-16 million just 2-3 years ago when they floated the idea that an IPF would be the next item on the docket to put on campus? Even with inflation or other economic factors, I can't see it being more than $18 million at the most. $40 million would imply it's either going to be something unprecedented, or it's going to some sort of actual indoor stadium for soccer/lacrosse/
  16. Those were good days, you would hope with a better sun dome and some success with Antigua, we can generate that interest again. Esp in the middle of January when there are no tests, competing sports, and not much to do at the beach and such. This game doesn't even have friggin announcers on site.
  17. Seems to have some south Florida ties, may help fill in the gap from Telly a little bit.
  18. http://tam.scout.com/story/1500026-raymond-james-stadium-to-get-renovations I know they recently did some work on the concessions before the 2014 season, this seems to note that there are some other things planned. looks mostly related to concessions and a team store, but does mention something about a tailgate area on the north side (though the rollercoaster/flume ride stuff seems a bit much), and some video board upgrades. i would definitely be in favor of some nicer video boards, esp since that seems to be the new arms race - being able to have super high def video screens, as well as areas for scores of other games and information being we're in the fantasy era.
  19. Doesn't guarantee anything. Driskel was billed as the 2nd coming of Tebow years ago, and then Urban left and the offense he would have excelled in did too. We'll see next year I guess. Driskel may have a decent season as long as Holtz tweaks it a little since Sokol was more of a pocket passer and there should be some running elements. On the flip side of that, Manny Diaz is now collecting a boobton of money at Mississippi State, so that LA Tech defense that was pretty good this year may not hold up and thus they could regress.
  20. And USF Lakeland had one with Polk CC back in the day - used it myself to get my AA then went into IT at USF-Lakeland.
  21. So other than alternative or 80s music, making it one of those genres is just more saturation. Radio in Tampa has become a joke the last few years, and sports radio is right there with it. 620 isn't all that interesting, 1010 is mostly CBS syndicated junk and changes output at night so it's mostly static, and I barely get 1040 half the time, and there's always a nice overlay with beeping noises every so many minutes. (And no, I don't want to listen to national shows, I want to hear about local stuff)
