  3. This article should answer why this area is important to USF among others. http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/economicdevelopment/usf-moffitt-busch-gardens-and-university-community-hospital-form-tampa/1179963
  4. per the official USF page: October 22, 1957 The Florida Cabinet approves the name "University of South Florida," in part because it is the southernmost university in the state at the time. Representative Gibbons hopes the name of the university will ensure the support of legislators in southern districts, many of which fall under USF's area of operation. http://www.usf.edu/about-usf/history.aspx
  5. please merge this elsewhere if needed

  8. so is vinik not involved then? It is believed that the Tampa Port Authority bought the Channelside complex (the building, they already own the land) so they can in turn sell it to Vinik's group. Prior to TPA acquiring the building, the bank who owned it was leaning towards selling to the Liberty Group. TPA objected to the Liberty Group and created many hurdles to avoid them being the winning team for the complex. Now TPA owns the building and land outright and are free to negotiate with Vinik http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/realestate/liberty-channelside-partners-say-port-of-tampa-sabotaged-their-deal/2123678 http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/remember-the-channelside-bay-plaza-sale-still-pending-still-delayed/2155196

  11. Side bar about USC and their stadium. People say its off campus but its seriously across the street from campus, also, now they control it: http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/college-football/story/_/id/9638471/usc-takes-control-los-angeles-memorial-coliseum
  12. Interesting.. http://www.usforacle.com/dining-hall-closes-in-andros-complex-1.2831489#.UiCuFBs3u5I "Closing the dining hall is the beginning of a long-term renovation project, which Assistant Vice President for USF Campus Business Services Jeff Mack said will include removing and adding new buildings, dining and retail establishments. The project, however, is still in early planning stages at the university." Sounds like that dorm/retail complex with a potential Publix that I've been hearing about might be coming along nicely in the planning stage.
  13. Yea seems far fetched but can't blame Crist for trying. I'm sure the goal is to improve his district, which is a pretty tough one.
  14. http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/realestate/hillsborough-commissioner-pitches-sulphur-springs-for-rays-stadium/2137720 Hopes raised and lowered in one article. *correction - Tampa Bay Times
  15. Legally yes, but come on, their stadium is across the street from campus. Might as well be considered on-campus. http://goo.gl/maps/hxEqM
  16. Then there should be no problem at all putting something like that south of the Dome, with a little road diversion and parking garages to offset lost spaces ... my imagery is old and doesn't reflect Muma Basketball Center
  17. Obligatory scaled picture of Orange Bowl on campus... just to keep the dream alive!
  18. Hem, Although that area is part of USF, it is owned by the USF Research Park. The area shown below along with the empty parcels south of Fowler are all part of he USF Research Park. http://www.research.usf.edu/rf/research-park.asp
