  1. I don't know anything about this kid, or his football skills. I hope he is a great player, comes here and does great things. But there are LOTS and LOTS of football players that aren't good enough that would love to play at USF just because they can't get another DI sniff. You don't offer a player that isn't good enough. Understood... but those players don't run a 4.28. Here we have a kid who is one of (if not the) fastest players in the state, is good academically, and really wants to be on the team. To me, the totality of the circumstances screams offer him now, despite his size. Obviously it's not my decision but I sure hope he gets the scholly.
  2. I didn't see much criticism. The guy ran a 4.28 and is already passionate about being a Bull. I hope we offer him - there is something to be said about having guys on your team who are there because they are passionate, rather than because some other school just didn't push hard enough. Robert, keep fighting - it will be that much sweeter when you get here and succeed.
  3. Here you went from one end of the spectrum to the other -- much like we are not in the company of the Harvards of the world, we are also not comparable to schools like Rider. We are one of the largest universities in the country, are in a large metro area, and we have decent academics. Your final conclusion is valid, myself and others just don't really agree with the logic you're using to get there.
  4. I've met many people that went to these top 10 institutions, and I assure you they are not envious of any of the schools you mentioned. That said, I fully believe that having a good football program, especially for a regional state school in the Southeast US, really helps to attract quality students.
  5. I've never heard of UPenn... honestly... or Caltech... I am aware of most of the Invy League schools like Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Old Dominion, etc. Its all about perception... go to any SEC campus in the Deep South and you'll likely get the same answer. Saint Leo is my alma mater and is a decent school that is renowned through the military around the world for their Veterans Programs, but if you ask a Big10 student or grad about them they'd offer the same answer... Saint Leo who? Hell there are some people in Tampa and in Florida that don't know what Saint Leo is, or where it is... I can't tell you how many times I have heard "Isn't that a girls school" or "Isn't that located up north somewhere"... Penn, CalTech, and every other school in question is in the national top 10. USF is #170 last I checked. Some of those schools have multi-billion dollar endowments (Harvard, for instance, is around 30 billion). The fact that the top 10 academic universities in the country can thrive without powerhouse football programs is completely irrelevant to our situation.
  6. USF is not in the same universe as Harvard, MIT, Penn. Although I certainly think it's possible to thrive without a football program at all, the fact that those academic powerhouses do it is completely irrelevant to our situation.
  7. For what it's worth, the fans in Gainesville felt much the same way about Addazio as you feel about Holtz.
  8. I'd like to cast a write-in vote for Brian Fisher
  9. Victory over integrity? Get off your high horse. Do you drive on campus? If so, do you always obey the posted speed limit? If you don't drive, have you ever jaywalked? You mean to tell me you have never broken the law? It's a matter of integrity, of course. If you are driving above 10 mph then you are endangering your fellow students and I can only hope that you are expelled from USF for this reprehensible behavior. Jaywalking vs Smoking Pot ;D Speeding vs Tresspassing I'm guesing by all the people condemning my stance, you don't care that he has knowingly broken team rules and laws several times now. How many chances can you give a guy that keeps making mistakes? You are a ******* hypocrite. You think that it is o.k. for you to break the laws YOU don't think are a big deal but condemn others when they do the same. Let me say this... you are more of a danger to your fellow students if you are speeding than if you are holed up in your dorm room smoking pot.

  11. Well I was told by a friend of mine that he had racial slurs thrown his way (with no provocation, no less)... and YES, it was white trash ecu fans. Jesus, go back to your ******* double wides already.
  12. Based on what I heard, Randolph was put into the game (I believe on only two plays) to test out the hip. He complained he was still having pain, so they didn't want to put him back there for a return.
  13. Petrov didn't make the trip and I think since Leavitt made the choice to go with Alvarado at kicker he decided to stick with Teachey punting it at the end there.
  14. Don't worry, he won't be returning any more punts. Chambers is the new guy when Randolph's out.
  15. I can say on good authority no additional land has been purchased for the purpose of an OCS, above and beyond what we aleady own.
  16. This is not necessarily true. The Sun Dome and other facilities that sell alcohol were zoned before Pizzo Elementary was constructed. It is a gray area, but we would have quite a hard time getting an OCS zoned for alcohol if it was built in the Sun Dome area like Jim said in his pinned post on the main board. No need to zone... beer will be served at the new Marshall Center anyway... does anyone have a pic of the field???? Yes, there is a need to zone... as is the case with any facilities that will be newly serving alcohol. Yes the MC will be zoned as well, it is far enough away from Pizzo that it doesn't cause a problem.
  17. If the QB's were reversed, you'd be seeing Grothe all over TV right now... it has little to do with how good Tebow is, it has much more to do with the media's fascination with the Gators Umm HE was pretty much one of the most hyped prospects coming out Nease last year. HE was the main reason why that Nease Vs Hoover game was televised on ESPN last year. The press conference where he made his decision between Bamma and UF was televised on ESPN. All that cant be attributed to UF because no one knew where he was going until that press conference even Urban Myer, Myer's cell died when Tebow called him before the press conference so Myer found out from ESPN. To say he's hyped just because hes at UF is a pretty uninformed statement. I did not say that his attending UF was the ONLY reason he is so hyped... but to compare the hype he had coming out of high school (a press conference in the middle of the day and maybe some back page newspaper coverage) to the press he is getting now, like ALL OVER SportsCenter, front page of the sports section, and ESPN.com, is foolish. If Grothe was at UF being utilized in the same manner, that would be him on the tip of everyone's tongue. And Tebow here, while there undoubtedly would have been press when he signed, would ABSOLUTELY NOT be recieving the same publicity he is recieving at UF. To think otherwise is naive.

It is a gray area, but we would have quite a hard time getting an OCS zoned for alcohol if it was built in the Sun Dome area like Jim said in his pinned post on the main board.
  19. unfortunately if that were the case he probly wouldn't be playing here And he wouldn't have the speed. Size for the sake of size is no good, look at Pat.

  21. For what it's worth, part of Ponton's punishment was being demoted to last on the depth chart... he is still there. My guess is Leavitt starts Williams and lets Ponton work himself back in.
  22. If the call on the field was in fact incorrect (or even that close), then the replay official should have called for a review immediately after reviewing the play. Leavitt should not have had to call a timeout. That TO was so crucial to our offense that we could not afford to expend it with the risk of no review. Regardless of what you say, we cannot be guaranteed that the play in question would be reviewed if a timeout was called. In conclusion, this mistake lies at the feet of the replay officials, not CJL.
  23. I have no doubt that Leavitt would have challenged the call if he could have, but the best he could have done is call a timeout and have them *maybe* review the play. If he had called a timeout and they hadn't reviewed the play, it would have put us in a very, very, very bad position from a clock management perspective.
