  1. Don’t know if this has been discussed before, but we all know that the AAC’s TV contract pays MUCH less than the so-called “power” leagues. I’ve heard about $7-8M per team annually? But from the reports I was able to find, the AAC is receiving approximately $70M combined in both exit fees from UC, Houston and Oviedo ($30M up front by 2025 and another $24M spread over a dozen years) and entry fees from the six new member schools (around $18M combined). UConn is also still paying on its $17M exit fee from the AAC that began in 2020. The league also reportedly collected around $38M in postseason money last year - including a good chunk from UC’s football playoff appearance. I would assume that the bulk of those monies will be going to the remaining existing members: USF, Memphis, Tulane, SMU, Tulsa, ECU, Temple and - to a lesser degree Navy and Wichita State. If so, that’s a pretty good chunk of change that USF should be collecting in the short term, right? The $7-8M in TV money seems minuscule compared to what the “power” leagues are getting, but is it possible that the real number we are seeing over the next few years is actually more like double the broadcast rights number when you add in all the other revenue sources from this realignment? Obviously, it’s a relatively short-term boon, but if that is the case, it feels significant to me for us to be able to continue to invest and it doesn’t make the disparity seem quite as huge - especially when compared to some of the teams that moved and are paying exit fees, entry fees and/or are making smaller percentages of league revenue as newcomers. the key, of course, is to make the most of the opportunity over the next few years.
  2. I’d trim that down to 16. Lose UNT, Navy, Rice, and Charlotte. Move Tulsa to the west and UTSA to the east.
  3. Pretty sure Charlotte was with us in C-USA also . . . and the Sun Belt, too.
  4. It’s called the “show hat” and it’s reserved for game days. I have many USF ball caps, but for years there’s only one that comes out for kickoffs.
  5. . . . and all USF alumni should take great pride. Go to Google and do a simple search. Type in “USF” and then hit the “news” tab. You’ll regularly find a series of links about our university that include information regarding a variety of research breakthroughs (archeology in Malta, Dr. Deep Sea, etc.), national grants to conduct research (transportation, health care, military, a new vessel for marine science research, etc.) and other academic achievements. Oh, there’s some football in there, too. Do the same search with “UCF” and 90% of the links that you’ll turn up are football-related. We love USF sports and we surely lag behind Oviedo CC there right now, but when it comes to the true mission of a university, we’re definitely in very different leagues.

  14. Don’t know if they a can play, but we’re starting to look like a D1 roster - size-wise. They’ve done some good offseason work.
  15. Those are two sharp guys. Nice locker room additions, no doubt.
  16. Haven’t heard him mentioned at all, so I’m guessing he’s not a factor yet, but I’ve been waiting for DE Michael Williams’ name to jump in there at some point. The kid has size and put up video game numbers as a prep in Michigan. I ran into one of his high school coaches just by chance one day - not soon after Williams signed with us - and he told me the kid was an absolute stud and Michigan State was after him hard until his knee injury. 17. Hey Gene! I do remember. Would be great to get something going on the field and put the band back together in a big way some day soon. I miss the camaraderie.
  18. College football is officially dead in my world. I will continue to passionately watch and support the Bulls in everything they do, but the days of me tuning in to watch a random college football game or any so-called “national championship” game are over. They have absolutely taken away everything that was special about the sport. The ACC will be next to implode and we’ll eventually have nothing more than an NFL minor league system. Who cares about that?
  19. No idea if he can coach or get us back on track, but Coach Go is turning heads on the recruiting trail for sure. Great offer list (including Oregon, South Carolina) for this kid to choose us . . .
  20. Gotta believe this cat is probably dealing with something off the court.
  21. Wouldn’t that be something? Especially since Gaskin will play defense and Bohannon will be gone before Gaskin arrives on campus.
