My take for hosting a regional...need to take two in UConn, beat JU, and then win 2 in Orlando.  That would put us at 43-12 before the AAC Tourney and either 1st or 2nd place regular season.

Agree

5 out of 7 in your scenario is hugely more respectable than 4 out of 7, which would mean we either lost to UNF or dropped one of the remaining series.

We can afford to drop one each against Uconn and UCF. Any other loss would be devastating.

In the BaseBall America projected field of 64, UCONN is one of the last two. So, they will be fighting very hard against USF this weekend to improve their current status on the bubble:

Projected Field of 64 (May 10)

May 10, 2017 By Michael Lananna  Teddy Cahill

With the regular season a couple of weekends away from ending and conference tournaments nearing, the margin for error has thinned significantly for teams on the bubble.

This is do-or-die time for many of the teams in the field, particularly those who rank in and around the 50s in RPI.

Dallas Baptist and Connecticut, for instance, are two of the last four teams in the field, but both need to finish well down the stretch. The No. 46 RPI Huskies will have a chance to bolster their case this weekend against American Athletic Conference leader South Florida (No. 19 in the RPI). The Patriots, meanwhile, have series remaining against teams well below .500 and can’t afford to lose.

We really need to win both, because we have only won an away series against Memphis.

Baseball America chat before our win @UF:

From Ted (Tampa FL): Are the USF Bulls a lock for a regional? Any chance to host? Where does Shane McClanahan project in next years draft? Any possibility Kevin Merrell goes in the first round?

Teddy Cahill: South Florida would really have to fall apart not to make a regional at this point. As for hosting, it’s not out of the question, but the Bulls really need to finish well. The committee likes to see teams win away from home and, to this point, USF’s lone road series win is at Memphis. Winning this weekend at UConn and next weekend at UCF would go a long way to helping the Bulls’ case. As for the draft prospects, McClanahan has first-round potential. Merrell probably goes a touch lower than that, but he has really helped himself this year.

With UCF, ECU and Cincy winning tonight, USF narrowed the gap between USF and RPI #16.

We won't know until Friday how many RPI points a win @UCONN is worth. I'm guessing around 20 points. A loss to UCONN might be somewhat more.

At the moment USF is RPI #19.

We are behind these teams by the RPI points indicated:

#18 Southern Miss - 8 points

#17 LSU - 8 points

#16 Baylor - 9 points

#15 Arizona - 17 points

#14 Arkansas - 20 points

USF is ahead of #20 WVU by 22 points.

USF is ahead of #21 Texas and #22 Oklahoma by 38 points.

See: http://warrennolan.com/baseball/2017/team-impact?team=South-Florida

Of course, these amounts will fluctuate as other games are concluded tonight, thursday and Friday.

Suffice to say, we have an opportunity to make a significant jump in RPI with just one win.

Funny how the RPI is calculated.

USF just moved to #18 RPI.

That happened because Baylor BEAT Prarie View, but LOST 21 RPI points by doing so. LOL

There are very few games today.

USF #18 RPI can improve to #17 RPI, if Auburn beats LSU.

LSU RPI #16 would fall to RPI #21.

Any idea what the direct impact is from the various outcomes that could occur from this series?

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
