The Rays requested the investigation last week. If the Cubs are found to have tampered, it would be a violation of major league rules that prevent teams from contacting personnel under contract with other clubs. The penalty for tampering is compensation in terms of a player, draft picks and/or money. Suspensions are also on the table. http://www.si.com/mlb/2014/11/10/mlb-chicago-cubs-tampering-joe-maddon?xid=nl_siextra It doesn't take a leap of faith to believe that the Cubs tampered here - I can't imagine Maddon (or most anyone) would opt out of $2 million unless they knew they were going to have a job somewhere desirable next year. The problem though is how does MLB or the Rays expect to prove it? Edited November 10, 2014 by Leviathan
