I had heard it had a cult following, so I started watching it today on the second computer screen while I worked.

Holy cow, that's one EXCELLENT series. It brought me back to the days when I was hooked on the old Battle Star Galactica -the original. Just great storytelling with people you care about.

Browncoat here.

One of the best series ever made. Make sure you watch them in the right order. Fox really screwed up this series and didn't order them properly. Then watch the Serenity movie right after Objects In Space. Buy the DVD and watch the commentaries, etc.

I just rewatched them all last month in a marathons session for maybe the 5th time.

Shiny!

(Yes, I know how to spell that word.)

Very shiny! Brought a little tear to the corner of my eye

One of the coolest things from the commentaries was the comment that the cast would hang out in the kitchen whenever they weren't on camera. You can really see how close the cast were and how much they really loved each other.

I overdosed on the whole series and the movie in one day, so my brain's been trying to digest it all.

Anyway, what made me love it so much is that it is as if somebody made a series out of Star Wars -the concept of Han Solo, Luke, Leia and a few others as they carry illegal cargo from one planet to another.

None of the Star Treks could achieve this, and I've seen them all.

Leave it to Fox to destroy television art.

And leave it to fandom to resurrect a cancelled show.

Here's an example of how much some folks loved the show. $10,000 worth of Lego pieces to build a 7-foot-long Serenity.

Found here. A great source of trivia

It does have a similar feel as Star Wars.  While it's technologically advanced, it feels like it happened a while ago.

Wheedon said he wanted to include the past and the future to make it feel like the present, or something like that.

Ten years after cancellation, the Browncoats are stronger than ever. Says a lot

For me, this is why Firefly works and the new Star Wars movies (post-Empire Strikes Back) stunk for me; the characters drive the story and not the technology. Plus, the odds are always heavily against them but they keep going.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
