WVU's final offensive play - is it legal to have 8 on the line of scrimmage?

On the last offensive play - the one where they spiked the ball to set up the kick - there were 8 on the line of scrimmage and 3 in the backfield. Is this possible or did they get away with one?

If it was illegal and called then the kick would have been from five yards further out which COULD have made a difference.

I agree with this, however I also believe that IF (and thats a big if) it was illegal, then the game would have been to overtime because I think there is some 10 second run off rule now.

No its not illegal to have 8 on the line of scrimmage, you could have 10 there if you want. However, only the players on the end are eligible to catch a pass and you must have at least 7 on the line of scrimmage. In the picture you showed above player #1 would not be an eligible pass reciever. Secondly I believe the 10 seconds rule is an NFL rule and not a college rule.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
