USF_Girl Posted February 28, 2011 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 552 Reputation: 0 Days Won: 0 Joined: 06/10/2004 Share Posted February 28, 2011 Help out fellow Bulls! I've been fighting Stage II PKD since September and was dropped from BCBS insurance because of the cost of my care. Delta Chi has been helping organize fundraisers for my fund and the Jimmy V Fund since I got sick and ended up in the hospital for an extended stay. I eventually would like to goto Sloan Kettering in NYC for clinical trials there to avoid a kidney transplant. So come out, all student organizations and alumni are welcome. USF_Girl Posted March 1, 2011 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 552 Reputation: 0 Days Won: 0 Joined: 06/10/2004 Author Share Posted March 1, 2011 Here is the link for bags and purses, I also have $5 green and gold tees: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2568932&id=5001513&l=b6c91172dd I was dropped the week after getting my Master's, but it was just the timing. Blue Cross and Blue Shield can drop for any reason at any time. It is outlined in their agreement. Since I have this disease I am now uncoverable. I have tried every insurance company out there. I also found out last week that if it gets bad that the state could deny a transplant. It happened to a man in the Orlando area when he was dropped the state would not cover his kidney transplant. In another year it will be illegal for insurance companies to do this. I did contact the governor's office and wrote senators about this. One of my medicines cost $625 for a months worth. Some companies supply me with medications due to the compassion care programs some offer. But just in medication alone I spend $1200 a month. Everyone says their isnt a price in life- but there is. I'm a fighter (I'm a Bull after all), I've organized many fundraisers for others in need and I know I can help myself. I've helped numerous children with cancer, the USF cycling club when their president died, etc. I am going to carry this burden and not give up. The Colleen Hennessy Medical Fund Inc. not only pays for my treatments I also give grants to people in my situation regardless of their disease or age. Its not fair that people are willing to fight, willing to pay for insurance but are not allowed to have it because they are "too sick."
