From the USF SID Office:

Danny Muy and Cedric Hill Enroll at USF with Plans to Play Football

(January 12, 2005) Danny Muy and Cedric Hill, who signed national letters of intent in 2004 with Nebraska and Miami respectively, have transferred to USF and enrolled in classes. Both players expect to participate in spring practice.

Muy, 6-2, 270, was ranked as the ninth best center prospect in the nation by Rivals.com out of Tallahassee Lincoln High School, although he played guard and tackle in high school. He earned first team all-Big Bend and third team all-state as a senior, when he graded out at 82 percent with 19 “decleaters.” He was on Lincoln’s 2001 state championship team as a sophomore and began starting in 2002, when the team reached the state semifinals.

Muy did not play in 2004 at Nebraska, and he will seek an NCAA waiver to become eligible in 2005 without sitting out the mandatory transfer season. He has transferred to USF to be closer to his ill mother in Tallahassee.

Hill, a 6-3, 210, played with USF’s Carlton Williams at Valdosta High School before signing a national letter of intent with Miami. He was subsequently released from that letter and chose to sit out the year. He becomes immediately eligible at USF.

At Valdosta High, Hill had 24 catches for 574 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior in 2003, leading the team in all three categories. He caught touchdown passes of 74 and 61 yards in the state semifinal game against Westside High School. Hill played receiver, tight end and defensive end while at Valdosta.

Maybe we'll get some more of Miami's recruits, they are in a pickle with scholarships:

Recruits scramble for spots

By Omar Kelly

Staff Writer

Posted December 26 2004

CORAL GABLES · The Miami Hurricanes have serious holes to fill on the roster, a limited number of scholarships and a number of talented players who want to come on board.

Miami only has around 15 scholarships to offer this recruiting season, and the few available spots have sent recruits into a frenzy. UM has landed 11 early commitments, and a number of those have come from the nation's top recruits, prompting coach Larry Coker to issue a warning to other prospective Hurricanes.

"If you want to come, don't play [around]," said Coker, whose Hurricanes are still in the running for more than a dozen of the nation's top 100 high school players. "We have a numbers issue we have to deal with."

Coker and his staff are holding out for a few of the nation's elite, and the Hurricanes are front-runners for several of them. Miami Carol City safety Kenny Phillips, considered the nation's best at his position, said this week that he's favoring the Hurricanes. Houston tight end Marcellus Bennett, also considered the best at his position, previously committed to the Hurricanes before backing out to visit Texas, Oklahoma and Duke (he's also one of the nation's top hoops recruits). But UM is still in the hunt.

If UM lands those two, plus Pahokee running back Antone Smith, Arizona defensive tackle Ekom Udofia and any of three prized receivers (Tallahassee's Fred Rouse, Tennessee's Patrick Turner and Tampa's O.J. Murdock), the Hurricanes will have put together one of Coker's strongest classes.

Miami already has commitments from Texas tackle Reginald Youngblood, considered the nation's top offensive tackle, Clearwater guard A.J. Trump, California quarterback Derek Shaw and linebackers Spencer Atkins (Naples) and Demetri Stewart (Northeastern), all rated among the nation's best at their positions.

"It is [early] for us to get that caliber of commitments," Coker said. "Now, a lot of people get early commitments, guys that just want to come. We've never done that. We really try to get the top players. And normally for the top players, it's later in the process. To get this many that early, yeah, it is a little bit rare."

Complicating matters for Miami is the fact that two prospects from last year's class -- offensive lineman Josh Kerr and receiver Cedric Hill -- deferred their enrollment to this spring. Three more prospects -- defensive tackles Antonio Dixon, Joe Joseph and Kellen Heard -- were not allowed to enroll last fall because of academic issues.

If any of those five enrolls for the spring semester, it will reduce the number of available spots from the 2005 signing class.

I wouldn't mind getting Antonio Dixon or Joe Joseph.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”
