Just be glad it isnt Basketball, instead of the BCS rankings at the end of the procedures there is a COIN FLIP!

Coin Flip

If any ties still exist after implementing all of the above tie-breaking procedures, a coin flip is required. The procedure takes place at The BIG EAST Conference office immediately following the conclusion of the last regular season conference game. Commissioner John Marinatto or his designee will administer this procedure. This session is open to the media and to athletic department representatives of the tied teams.

Yeah but that's just to determine seeding in the conference tournament (or I guess in a very unlikely scenario, the regular season conference championship). That's not nearly as important as determining the BCS representative.

Great work and thanks for taking the time to put this together.

But I can't root for Rutgirls.  Ever!

That's OK. Dogma and ET came up with the solution - just root for WVU to lose. Problem solved, LOL

I wonder why they don't use RPI? It's no better or worse than using BCS rankings, right?

Can Cincinnati still get to the BCS?

Scenario 1 - UC wins out and gets to 4-3, can they take the BCS bid?

- RU is out w/ 4 losses

- UCONN, UL have 3 losses

- Pitt, USF, Cuse, WVU have 2 losses

Scenario 1a - Cuse has to lose

- Cuse, UCONN, UL have 3 losses

- Pitt, USF, WVU have 2 losses

Scenario 1b - Pitt, USF, WVU all have to lose at least once, preferably twice for USF and WVU

- Pitt plays USF+WVU, USF plays Pitt+UCONN, WVU plays UL+Pitt+RU

- Since USF beat UC, USF has to lose both, USF is out with 4 losses

- Since Pitt beats USF, Pitt now has to lose to WVU

- since UC beat UL, need UL to get to 4-3 and join the mini-conference

- UL has to beat WVU and RU

- since WVU beat UC, need WVU to lose to RU, WVU is out with 4 losses

Scenario 1c - mini-conference results?

- UC, UCONN, UL, Pitt, Cuse all are 4-3

- UC 3-1

- UCONN 2-2

- UL 2-2

- Pitt 2-2

- Cuse 1-3

YES, UC is still mathematically alive in the BCS race

Can UCONN still get to the BCS?

Scenario 2 - UCONN wins out and gets to 5-2, can they win the BCS?

- only Pitt and WVU are still alive, everyone else has at least 3 losses

- UCONN has beaten BOTH Ptt and WVU, and will win any head2head

- If Pitt loses ANY of its 3 remaining games, UCONN wins the BCS

YES, UCONN is still very much alive in the BCS race, all they need to do is beat UC, win @Cuse and @USF, and have Pitt lose ANY 1 of 3 games

Can Louisville still get to the BCS?

Scenario 3 - UL wins out and gets to 4-3, can they take the BCS bid?

- RU is out w/ 4 losses

- UC, WVU have 3 losses

- UCONN, USF, Cuse have 2 losses

- Pitt has 1 loss

Scenario 3a - Cuse has to lose

- UC, Cuse, WVU have 3 losses

- UCONN, USF have 2 losses

- Pitt has 1 loss

Scenario 3b - Pitt has to lose twice, preferably to UC and USF

Scenario 3c - now USF has to lose to UCONN

Scenario 3d - now UCONN has to lose to UC

Scenario 3e - now UC has to lose to RU

- RU is STILL out w/ 4 losses, LOL

- EVERYONE else has 3 losses

- only remaining games are WVU@Pitt and RU@WVU

- WVU-Pitt loser is OUT w/ 4 losses

- If RU beats WVU, WVU is OUT w/ 4 losses

Scenario 3f - Pitt+WVU both out

- UC, UCONN, UL, USF, Cuse all are 4-3

- UC 2-2

- UCONN 2-2

- UL 2-2

- USF 2-2

- Cuse 2-2

- Everyone's tied, so highest BCS rank goes, UL is still alive

Scenario 3g - Pitt out, WVU in

- UC, UCONN, UL, USF, Cuse, WVU all are 4-3

- UC 2-3

- UCONN 3-2

- UL 3-2

- WVU 2-3

Scenario 3g2 - new mini-conf with UCONN,UL,Cuse, all at 3-2

- UCONN 1-1

- UL 2-0

- Cuse 0-2

- Cuse 3-2

- UL goes to the BCS

Scenario 3h - Pitt in, WVU out

- UC, UCONN, UL, USF, Pitt, Cuse all are 4-3

- UC 3-2

- UCONN 3-2

- UL 2-3

- Pitt - 2-3

- USF 3-2

- Cuse 2-3

Scenario 3h2 - new mini-conf with UC, UCONN, USF, all at 3-2

- UC 3-2

- UCONN 3-2

- UL 2-3

- Everyone's tied at 1-1, so highest BCS rank goes, UL is still alive

Yes, UL still has a chance

Can Pitt still get to the BCS?

Scenario 4 - Pitt wins out and gets to 6-1, can they take the BCS bid?

Yes. Pitt's only loss is to UCONN, who has 2 losses. Pitt is alone at the top of the BE. Pitt controls its own destiny.

Can Rutgers still get to the BCS?

Scenario 5 - RU wins out and gets to 4-3, can they take the BCS bid?

- UC,UL are out w/ 4 losses

- WVU has 3 losses

- UCONN, USF, Cuse have 2 losses

- Pitt has 1 loss

Scenario 5a - Cuse has to lose

- Cuse, WVU have 3 losses

- UCONN, USF have 2 losses

- Pitt has 1 loss

Scenario 5b - Pitt has to lose at least 2 games, and USF one, so first let's assume Pitt loses to WVU and @UC

- Pitt, Cuse, WVU have 3 losses

- UCONN, USF have 2 losses

Scenario 5c - now RU wants UC and UL to win as many as possible

- UL beats WVU

- WVU is now out with 4 losses

- UC beats UCONN

- UCONN, Pitt, Cuse have 3 losses

- USF has 2 losses

Scenario 5d - now RU wants everybody but UCONN to lose

- UCONN beats USF

- USF-Pitt loser is OUT w/ 4 losses

Scenario 5e - Pitt out, USF in

- UCONN, RU, USF, Cuse all are 4-3

- UCONN 2-1

- RU 1-2

- USF 1-2

- Cuse 2-1

- UCONN beat Cuse, UCONN gets BCS bid

Scenario 5f - Pitt in, USF out

- UCONN, Pitt, RU, Cuse all are 4-3

- UCONN 2-1

- Pitt 2-1

- RU 1-2

- Cuse 1-2

- UCONN beat Cuse, UCONN gets BCS bid

- UCONN beat Pitt, UCONN gets BCS bid

No, RU has been mathematically eliminated - there's no way for RU to get to the BCS (so sorry, LOL)

Can Cuse still get to the BCS?

Scenario 7 - Cuse wins out and gets to 5-2, can they take the BCS bid?

- UC, UL, RU all have 3 losses and are out

- UCONN, USF, WVU have 2 losses

- Pitt has 1 loss

Scenario 7a - Pitt has to lose at least one (if Pitt loses twice, they're out)

- Cuse has already beaten all 3 remaining teams on Pitt's schedule, so it doesn't really matter which one Pitt beats

Scenario 7b 4-way mini-conf with UCONN, Pitt, Cuse, WVU all at 5-2

- UCONN 2-1

- Pitt 2-1 or 1-2, depending on WVU-Pitt game

- Cuse 2-1

- WVU x-2, out

- if Pitt loses to WVU, Cuse goes to BCS

- If Pitt beats WVU, then UCONN, Pitt, and Cuse are tied and highest BCS ranking goes to BCS

Scenario 7c 4-way mini-conf with Pitt, USF, Cuse, WVU all at 5-2

- Pitt 2-1 or 1-2, depending on WVU-Pitt games

- USF 1-2

- Cuse 2-1

- WVU 2-1 or 1-2, depending on WVU-Pitt game

- if Pitt beats WVU, then Pitt goes to BCS (Cuse and Pitt both 2-1, but Pitt beat Cuse)

- if WVU beats Pitt, then Cuse goes to BCS (Cuse and WVU both 2-1, but Cuse beat WVU)

Scenario 7defghijkl - 2-way and 3-way mini-conferences with just about everybody

- too many possibilities here, but Cuse could prolly get the BCS nod in several of them
