Jonathan Garner decommits from Florida.  He wanted to go to South Carolina, but Spurrier said no.  Weren't we recruiting him early?

Overrated...big kid, decent arm strength, totally immobile with little intangibles.

Best QB's in FL, solidified this year- Harrison Beck, Matt Grothe, Carlton Hill, and maybe Jarrett Brown.

Talks of overrated, two times in the past two year's Harrison Beck, and Matt Grothe faced Armwood HS in the playoffs.  Beck's teams faced them in regionals, and sectionals in 03'.  Beck's team faced them both in the state championship game.

In both game's Grothe's teams faired much better, and Grothe's stats were exceptional.  It's a good comparison because Armwood, today, probably has 7 division 1-A starters on defense, and last year probably had about the same- three did go 1-A last year.  This year Beck threw for about 190 yards, but had negative 40+ rushing, and two INT's versus Armwood.  Grothe threw for 278 yards, 3 TDs, 3 INT's, and rushed for 77 yards.  In both year's Beck's teams compared favorably over Grothe's in overall talent.

Hmmm, you be the judge.

I know he had USF listed at one time early on, but don't know how much interest we ever really had in him, since he apparently doesn't like playing out of a spread offense:

Mainland QB re-opens his recruiting

Published December 26, 2004

Ron Zook is out and so is QB Jonathan Garner. Urban Meyer is in and so is Josh Portis.

Mainland's Garner (6 feet 4/200 pounds), ranked 27th on the Sentinel's list of the state's top 100 recruits, committed to UF when Zook was coach. But he decommitted when Meyer told him he probably wouldn't fit into UF's new spread offense.

UF filled his spot with Portis (6-3/200), from Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft. Portis, generally considered one of the top three quarterbacks in California, previously had committed to Utah.

Garner now is looking at Michigan, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Ole Miss.

Portis shouldn't feel as if he's a long way from home: He is related to former UM and current Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis, who grew up in Gainesville.

Its nice to hear that a coach would actually be honest with a recruit and tell him straight up that he probably won't fit into thier system and give him a chance to look at another program before he wastes 2 years in the program without playing a game and is then forced to sit out another season due to transferring ala Justin Midgett, and Countless FSU recruits.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.
