is the non-football schools.  They are the weight sinking this league.  If expansion hits the football schools will get dragged down.  if the dominoes start to fall the football schools need to make decisions as a group without the bball schools input.

hopefully that happens

They aren't sinking the league. If anything, they're helping. That nice tv deal the league landed was largely due to basketball.

That TV deal does nothing close to what a football driven deal would have done... as long as the BEast is run by basketball schools then it is a sitting duck and will eventually be gutted football wise by a larger conference.

For example IF the BEast would of taken the initiative back when Miami, VT, and BC were still in the conference to cut the basketball schools and add schools to become 12 then it would be considered just as strong as the ACC right now.

In the NCAA Basketball is second fiddle to football

You really think the Big East would have gotten a good TV deal based on football?

In the NCAA basketball is king.  Remember, there are more than 300 schools playing top-level (D-1) basketball.

The NCAA doesn't get any money for football... the money goes to conferences and member institutions.

Also, the ACC basketball money is bigger than the ACC football money.

But as other posters have said, the Big East is a basketball conference with some football members.  If the schools split the name "Big East" will remain with the non-football schools.  The football schools would have to form their own conference.

you can wipe your ass with that TV deal if we get raided again.  The best thing for USF is the remaining football schools to come together and act as a group to secure a better position in a league.

Only if the BEast would of taken the initiative back when they still had Miami, VT, and BC... the BEast could of right now been just as strong as the ACC if they would of kicked out the basketball schools back then. They are destroying this conference and will be the death of it sooner or later.

The argument could also be made that if the BEast right now were to axe the basketball teams and add 4 more teams then that football tv contract would also be much larger then the current basketball contract.

If the BEast is raided again it will be dead in the water and a sitting duck for the ACC, basketball will not save the BEast what so ever.

i would consider it a success if the remaining football schools stuck together and joined the acc in force
