If they aren't the same, then they can't all be average.  Some are better than others.  Ben Williams are mediocre, but Plancher is at least better than him.  Ford we'll never really know.  In 2007 Ford was our best back, in 2008 Taylor was our best back, but last year Plancher was the best even though he had to split carries with 5 other guys.  He's better than mediocre.

SittingBull

To qualify for a 6th year of eligibility, to sum it up, a player must have missed almost all of 2 different seasons.  Plancher had an injury his true freshman year which forced him to redshirt, as well as a knee injury his redshirt freshman year in the first game vs. Mcneese St. that ended his season.

Jordan shipley (texas) suffered multiple injuries (hamstring) that forced him to miss two seasons, which is why he was given a sixth year to play this past season.

The contrary example is Ben Mauk of Cincinnati.  He had a gruesome injury at Wake Forest in the first game of the 06 season which caused him to miss the rest of the season.  He transferred to Cincy and played his 5th year, and then requested a 6th, but the problem was that he did not have a doctor's documentation of an injury that forced him to redshirt in his first year (03) at Wake Forest.

So in order for Grothe to have a chance at a 6th year, he would have needed to have some sort of evidence that injury was the reason that he redshirted in 05.

hope this helps

With the amount of waivers that USF has been able to acquire in the past few years, I would say that somebody in the compliance office is probably deserving of a pay raise.
