Anyone know how many USF players are now playing in the MLS?

PHILADELPHIA - Zak Boggs proved the mock draft is all about speculation.

The Parkersburg native was selected in the second round and the 31st pick overall by the New England Revolution in Thursday's Major League Soccer SuperDraft held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

Boggs, who was nowhere to be found in mock drafts leading up the draft, just concluded his senior season with the University of South Florida men's soccer team. The former Parkersburg High School standout started in all 44 games for the Bulls the past two seasons and second on the team in scoring during the 2008 season with 15 points.

The SuperDraft began at 2 p.m. and Boggs received the good news several hours later.

"It surprised me too," Boggs said. "Actually I was down in Bradenton (Fla.) and it was at the end of a practice session that one of the coaches said to take a look at a text message. It was from the head coach at New England and said I had been taken in the second round.

I don't know how many USF players are playing in MLS right now, but I know of at least one who is doing really well. Jeff Cunningham, former USF player lead MLS in scoring last year and has played for the national team. Its funny, since i know that most people on this board probably have never heard of him, but he is probably the most famous USF athlete in the world (not US) since he has garnered a lot of interest of European soccer clubs, and recently scored against Denmark for the MNT. Go USF soccer and all the other programs!!! Also good luck to Boggs in MLS!!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

"For me, I never considered it that way (as a stepping stone), honestly. When I was offered the head job at South Florida, and I'm sincere about this, I never thought I would ever go anywhere."
