Lakeland’s McRoy Brothers Still Committed to Texas Tech

Despite the recent turmoil at Texas Tech, Lakeland High brothers Ben and Javares McRoy remain verbally committed to the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech fired head football coach Mike Leach last week over a controversy around his treatment of an injured player. Leach ran a wide-open spread offense that would have fit perfectly with the McRoys’ speed and playmaking ability.

According to their position coach at Lakeland, Will Bahler, the brothers are still committed to Texas Tech but are waiting to see who the new head coach is, which current assistants are retained and what kind of offense the new coach intends to run.

The brothers have made no secret that they are a package deal, and the other major school they considered that had offered both a scholarship was USF. So, unless there is a radical change in systems and the entire coaching staff is fired at Tech, it appears likely that the McRoys will still be heading to the Lone Star state, but stay tuned.
