NCAA 09 Sim: Pittsburgh @ # 21 USF

USF suffered it's first loss of the season in yet another heartbreaking fashion.  Grothe was ruled questionable, but did not play.  Grant Gregory took over and did a magnificent job.  He completed 27 of 37 for 326 yards and 4 touchdowns and an INT.  Problem is..... that INT came in overtime in the endzone.  USF actually had a 24-10 lead halfway through the third, but gave up two late TDs in the fourth to send it into overtime, where Pitt QB Bill Stull threw a TD pass on the first play but the PAT was missed.  USF drove down to the 4 yard line, just to have a fourth down pass INTd in the endzone.

For USF, I mentioned Gregory's stats.  Our running game was not there today, with Mike Ford being the only player with positive yardage.  Ford ran for 72 yards on 17 carries, a 4.2 average.  Gregory had -10 yards and Jamar Taylor had -5 yards.  Taurus Johnson led all receivers with 9 receptions for 73 yards and a score.  The others with TD catches:  Ced Hill (3-56)  Ben Busbee (2-46) and Ben Williams (2-45). 

Pitt's running game was almost unstoppable.  Shady McCoy had 99 yards on 17 carries and a score, but it was LaRod Stephens-Howling who took USF for a ride, gaining 67 yards on 9 carries and scored those two late TDs.  Bill Stull went 26-42 for 207 yards and two scores and two picks.  Oderrick Turner (7-53) and Derrick Kinder (3-34) caught the two TDs and true frosh Jonathan Baldwin led the way with 9 catches for 71 yards.

Well, so much for an undefeated season.  We had this one in the bag, but let it go in the end.  Matt Grothe will be good to go when Syracuse comes to town for Homecoming.  Let's hope the Bulls get back on the winning track.

AROUND THE BIG EAST:  Cincy enjoyed a nice win over Marshall 40-17, UCONN lost to North Carolina 38-28, Louisville had the week off, #2 West Virginia took out Rutgers 38-10, and Syracuse also had the week off.

As expected, we slipped out of the Media Poll and have fallen out of the Coaches' Poll completely.  No votes.  Hopefully good news will be brought forth on Wednesday as we play SuperBull 11

Pittsburgh's a prime example of a team that's much better in video games than in real life. You don't have to account for their idiot coach in a video game, because you are the coach.
