Omar Haugabook is now the QB for Dodge City CC. He's #2 in the nation in passing, #1 in individual Total Offense, and #6 in Individual Scoring (Non-Kickers).

WOW! Do we have great luck or what?

2 high profile qbs wouldn't do much better because scheme sucks

in football you have to control clock and run the ball too win

who wants to be a texas tech that beats bad teams 70-35 and always loses to good teams

i would rather be Ohio state that wins most games 20-10

Boy, I really hate to agree with smazza, but he is right on the mark with this one.

A running game is crucial in keeping the chains moving and in converting TD's when inside the 20.  Also, keeps the D fresh and wears out the other team.

With the current talent on this team we should pound the running game, play conservative and not turn the ball over and rely on the D.

Jake, smazza isn't entirely right.  The scheme that Hobbie doesn't suck!  It has been successful, and it works.  It could use some tweaking, but it works.  Now, it might be so sophisticated it needs a very special, and particular QB type to run it, but that's another issue, and another problem (recruiting).

Let's see what Hobbie and crew do this weekend.  They're allowed a little redemption considering last weeks opponent.    If they simplify the offense, bring a bigger package in for more plays, use the running game- but throw in some option, and let PJ throw on play action- then we could see some steady improvement.

Many people need to remember the Tennessee Tech game, it became a big blur after the tragic injury, and Bank's lulling us to sleep, but in the first quarter when PJ was healthy we actually had some absolutely new wrinkles in the offense.

1.  We ran three speed option plays, two of them PJ was tackled before he could make the pitch- we've never run option here before- other than the BFisher gimmic stuff.

2.  PJ was rolled out once, and we used him on some QB keeps, a quick waggle, and aQB draw- that was the first time since MB that I saw our offense have specific plays designed specifically for the QB to make plays with his leg- I take that back, when we had Brian Fisher at QB last year we did.

3.  Flare passes, in the flats to the RB's.  Once hall, and once Crossley each caught passes going full speed flaring off tackle.  Banks can't make that pass, or at least he never has in the past.

THEN, suddenly PJ got hurt.  We pulled him out but the problem is most of those changes- option, QB keeps, flares, rollouts- are not Bank's forte, and he can't execute.  So when PJ left with 13:55 in the second quarter (that's right PJ only played one quarter), we reverted to our old basic spread offense, the only offense Banks understands and can execute.   We then head into SC with the same basic structure for Banks benefit.  After we bring PJ in late in the third quarter it doesn't make sense to start using his mobility in the SC game when it appears lost, his knee was hurt, and SC is very athletic on defense.  So we just ran the basic spread offense to give PJ some passing experience, and experience reading defenses.

Obviously PJ looked bad, but it wasn't the ideal time for him to come in either, nor did we run plays to his strengths.  I truly believe, and maybe a little prayer is involved, that our staff is going to go back to many of those plays used in the first quarter of the Tennessee Tech game, and we'll see the staff utilize PJ's athleticism, and good running ability.  We'll see more running plays, but throwing in some wrinkles like option, and draws.

These are just observations, but if what was seen on the field the last two games holds true, then this should be the way the offense will execute.
