Political reasons aside, the economy sucks right now. People are spending records into gas.The Rays are heading in the right direction, but they are asking for 300 Million after getting a remodeled and somewhat new Trop in 1997, they've underspent and constantly been one of the worst teams in baseball. Yes, they are winning now (at the right time too) but it's gonna take more convincing than that.Hopwfully they can revisit this in couple years when the money is better. It sucks that they're gonna put together the Bluehair(ribbon) panel for baseball that will no doubt water down such a beautiful idea. From what I read about the discussions leading up to the construction of tropicana field, the same thing happened. They had a nice outdoor proposal but ended up with a crappy dome. In 1996-97 they made about 70M in improvments for the Rays. The past 2 seasons an additional 35 Million has been thrown in.
