Gooch from Columbia University to be chairperson of neurology. Gooch has background in both research and clinical care, a combination that will help lead the strategic expansion of the Department of Neurology, Dr. Stephen Klasko, vice president for USF Health and dean of the College of Medicine, said in a release. At Columbia, Gooch has served as a professor of clinical neurology and founder and director of the Columbia Neuropathy Research Center, the release said. He also is a director of the Electromyography Laboratory at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. Prior to coming to Columbia he was a member of the faculty at Baylor College of Medicine where he was director of the Baylor Neurology Residency Training Program and director of the Neurology Electromyography Laboratory at the Houston VA Medical Center. Gooch will begin work at USF on May 15. USF Health includes the University of South Florida's colleges of medicine, nursing and public health; the schools of biomedical sciences as well as physical therapy and rehabilitation sciences; and the USF Physicians Group.
