UC football player arrested

BY BILL KOCH AND JANE PRENDERGAST | BKOCH@ENQUIRER.COM AND JPRENDERGAST@ENQUIRER.COM

University of Cincinnati offensive tackle Khalil El-Amin was arrested Saturday and charged with felonius assault.

He was immediately suspended from the UC football team indefinitely, pending completion of the legal process.

El-Amin, 21, punched Trumaine Banks on Saturday, causing serious physical harm, according to a court document filled out by police. Banks was taken to a hospital, that document says.

El-Amin, a junior from Purcell-Marian High School, appeared in court Saturday and pleaded not guilty, according to a judge’s document.

That report also says officials took “lengthy attempts†to find out Banks’ condition. The report notes “facial injuries and swelling†and says Banks was not in the hospital.

El-Amin posted bond of $5,000, according to the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts web site.

El-Amin was ordered to stay away from Banks.

UC football coach Brian Kelly could not be reached for comment.
