I'm not very familiar with Namath's accomplishments, but i'd say that Montana might have something to say about that.

he beat colts in superbowl.jets were 18 pt underdogs

he psoted gaudy number befor egaudy was chic

4000 yard qb in 14 game schedule

As a lifetime Niner fan I of course became a Montana fan when he joined the team in 1979.  Even so, I have to agree with Smazza.  If Namath doesn't sustain the knee injuries or play on some pretty bad Jets teams in the 1970's, there would be no debate IMO.

he is one athlete(not many) that could play in other eras

With the rules today which took away what the defense could do against the passing game (i.e. the effective elimination of the bump-and-run), his numbers could easily surpass Marino's or Fout's.  I can't think of many team that he could not start for.

Here's a scary thought, a young/ healthy Namath on the Baltimore Ravens.  A team with an excellent defense and a dominating running game.
