Bullshiznitz Posted October 19, 2007 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 1,768 Reputation: 167 Days Won: 1 Joined: 12/26/2001 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Last night was a tough loss, but to keep things in perspective, we were playing the #30 ranked team (essentially) on the road, had 2 offensive starters out for most / part of the game, had Selvie playing hurt the entire game, missed 2 FG's, made several special team blunders and still was in the game the entire time, with a chance to tie / take the lead in the final minutes of the game. Realistically, it wasnt that bad of game, Rutgers is a good team....and looking ahead on our schedule, we should run the table. If Rutgers takes a loss to WVU or Louisville, we are right back in the drivers seat for the BCS spot. Other than that observations of the night: Biggest Mistake: Grothe downing the ball after being sacked on our last drive. We started at midfield, only needed a FG to send into overtime and had 1:30 left on the clock. Even after the sack, we still only needed another 30-35 yards or so just to give us a chance at a FG and more than a minute left on the clock.....absolutely no reason whatsoever to spike the ball there. As others have pointed out...experience showing up there. You cant put yourself in a 3rd and 22 just to save a few seconds in that case. That was the killer on that last drive. More so than the sack. Very good, not great: Rice is a very good back, but give any good back 35+ carries a game and he's going to get his yards. Heck, give Grothe that many carries and he'll average 150 yards a game too. I'll give him that he's a tough, quick back though. Hello Bench: There's absolutely no reason why Amarri should be on the field at this point. We dont really use him on the end arounds anymore and he's got worse butter fingers than Quize Green had for the BUCS. We're deep at WR, and he hasnt shown to be the playmaker he was 2 years ago. Enough is enough.....2nd half coaching: Taking away the special team errors, this is the first time this year Leavitt was outcoached in the 2nd half this year. Schiano and crew made the necessary half time adjustments to contain Grothe. We never countered. They were blitzing the entire 2nd half, yet never saw our receivers or gameplan adjust to this. It was a highly frustrating half to watch. You know its coming: You might as well not listen to Dumb@$$ this afternoon....cause you know he's going to be on his high horse blasting the BULLS and BULLS fans. Dont punish yourself nor give him the satisfaction.
