Pittsburgh-Nebraska Game to be a National ABC Telecast

7/13/2004

Panthers and Cornhuskers to meet for the first time in 46 years this Sept. 18.

The University of Pittsburgh’s Sept. 18 game with Nebraska, which ranks as one of the Panthers’ most anticipated non-conference games in recent memory, will be a national ABC telecast, it has been announced.

The game will have a noon kickoff at Heinz Field.

The Panthers already have six games slated for a national television network. In addition to Nebraska, the Panthers’ national television games include South Florida (Sept. 6), Connecticut (Sept. 30), Boston College (Oct. 16), Notre Dame (Nov. 13) and West Virginia (Nov. 25). Other television clearances are expected to be added as the season progresses.

The 2004 encounter marks the first game between Pittsburgh and Nebraska in 46 years. The two schools last met on Nov. 15, 1958, a 14-6 Nebraska win in Lincoln. The Cornhuskers last played in Pittsburgh on Oct. 12, 1957, a 34-0 Pitt victory. The Panthers lead the all-time series, 15-4-3.

The exclusive renewal period for last year’s Pittsburgh football season-ticket holders has expired resulting in the availability of a limited number of season-ticket packages now on sale to the general public. Heinz Field was sold out for the 2003 season and is well on its way to being sold out for the upcoming campaign.

Pitt football season tickets remain the best entertainment value in Western Pennsylvania. A very limited number of exclusive club seats also remain.

To purchase season tickets, please visit the Panthers’ official Web site, www.pittsburghpanthers.com or call (412) 648-PITT or (800) 643-PITT.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
