The FWAA and the Omaha Sports Committee presents the Outland Trophy annually to the top lineman in the nation. Dating back to 1946, the Outland Trophy is the third oldest award in college football, topped only by the Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award and last year it was presented to offensive tackle Robert Gallery of Iowa. The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will present the Bronko Nagurski Award in December to the best defensive player in college football, regardless of position. Last year’s recipient was cornerback Derrick Strait of Oklahoma. Krug has been the anchor of UConn’s offensive line throughout his career from the left tackle position, missing just two games in his three years. Named a tri-captain for the 2004 season in a vote of his teammates, Krug was named All-Independent each of the past two seasons. Last year, UConn yielded just 10 sacks, the second fewest of any team in the nation, while ranking eighth in the nation in total offense and 10th in passing offense. Lloyd has started 28 of his 33 career games played at weakside linebacker and is charging up the school’s record book. Leading all active Huskies with 295 career tackles, Lloyd ranks second in school history with his 35.5 career tackles for loss. His 18 TFLs as a sophomore tied for the second highest seasonal total in UConn history and he followed that up with 14.5 more last fall. He has led UConn in total tackles each of the past two seasons. Meanwhile, his four interceptions rank second amongst active Huskies. Two of the interceptions came off of Seneca Wallace during UConn’s monumental 37-20 win at Iowa State on Nov. 23, 2002. The two have helped the Huskies to a 13-3 record in the team’s last 16 games, including a 9-3 mark in 2003. UConn will begin its third season at the Division I-A level and its first as a member of the BIG EAST Conference on Sept. 4 when the Huskies welcome Murray State to Rentschler Field.
