Collin,

I can enjoy the nerd curiosities of stat keeping for sure. It's one of my many nerd interest, particularly the tons of cool formulas. I was hoping you could hook me up with a job up there next year so I can stay involved with the club!

As a matter of fact, I was interested in possibly looking at the game-by-game stats for last season as compared to this season as part of my end of semester project in Calculus II. I wanted to see if there was anything I could draw out  of the data and correlate to wins (e.g. starters ERA, Walks by relievers, on-base percentage).

Most of the games aren't too bad.  There are a few that really throw it off.

Game 3 versus High Point:  8 runs, 6 earned

Game 1 versus Jacksonville:  7 runs, 7 earned

Game 2 versus Central Michigan:  14 runs, 12 earned

Every other game is pretty low.  The UF game as Collin pointed out isn't as bad as you would think due to the error that started the inning.  It was 7 runs, but only one earned run.

Funny; I pitched in all of those games  :o

Doesn't help in Jacksonville when you have 2 HBP and a BB to open the inning...

Based on the above numbers, it looks like our ERA is 3.00 for the past 6 games in the last three innings of the ballgame.

Likely true, but our bullpen has been used before the 7th the past six games, which is why it calculates lower to 1.50. Let us enjoy our moment to shine ;-)

Per the media guide, USF had 38 errors in the first 19 games last season, so right at 2 per game.

Over the course of the season, USF had 95 error in 58 games, so its actually under 2 per game for all of last year.  It looks like we're on about the same pace if you take Collin's number as 31 in 19 games.

Wags, what is the story with the other relief pitchers on the roster that don't see much action?  I like the group that gets alot of the innings, but you can never have too much depth.  It seems we see the same guys every other game (you, Davis, Sanford, Yuri, , Lau, Rowe).

What about Torcise, Tillett, etc.?

Lau is no longer with the team.

Torcise is a red-shirt transfer from Louisville.

Tillett is finishing rehab, and should be a great asset to the team once he returns to the bullpen.

Stull is a redshirt as well.

Ok.  I was wondering about Lau.  Haven't seen too much of him even though he was pretty effective.  Sucks, but thats the way it is.  So we are a little bit thinner at the moment with the rehab plus the subtraction of Lau.

Is Torcise using his redshirt this year to be available next year?
