Bonds' Homer Caps Giants' Comeback Win Over Rockies

By JANIE McCAULEY, AP SPORTS

SAN FRANCISCO (May 28) -- "Shhhh," Barry Bonds said, smiling as he held his finger over his mouth instructing everyone to hush.

AP

Barry Bonds celebrates with his Giants teammates after winning the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth.

The slugger doesn't want anybody bringing up San Francisco's impressive winning streak. There will be no jinxing the good thing the Giants have going.

Bonds hit a two-run walkoff homer with two outs in the ninth to lead the surging Giants to their season-best seventh straight victory, a 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.

Bonds connected for his 13th homer of the year and No. 671 of his career on a 3-2 pitch from Tim Harikkala, sending the ball into the left-field seats just over the glove of Matt Holliday.

The way the wind was blowing, the 39-year-old slugger didn't think the ball was headed out.

"I got it up high enough," said Bonds, who feels healthy again after back spasms sidelined him for five games last week. "I feel good. Better. Still old. When you're healthy, you can do a lot."

His homer came after Shawn Chacon blew his second save in two nights when he allowed a two-run single to Marquis Grissom in the ninth that tied it.

It was Bonds' 10th career walkoff homer and first since last Aug. 10 against Atlanta. He's homered three times in his last four games.

"They're fun," Bonds said of game-winning homers. He gave a pep talk to the team in the dugout before the game.

Jim Brower (2-3) pitched the ninth for the win and the reigning NL West champions look like themselves again.

when all said and done bonds will be greatest homerun hitter of all time

wow- what an accomplishment

playing in hardest park to hit a homer and no one pitches to him

if he played in fenway he would have hit 900 homers and .400 every year

ted "headless'" WILLIAMS PLAYED IN THIS BANDBOX AND THINKS HE IS THE GREATEST

his stats are inflated playing in a little league park

Bonds has enough head to make up for TW not having one... Williams is the greatest hitter ever, bonds is not.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
