Agreed.  Actually, you won't find many people in disagreement with that assertion.  Even worse than firing him was firing him after every good candidate already got snapped up.  If you're going to do something stupid, why make it even stupider by waiting until the worst time?

The only way this move gets beaten in the "stupid firing" department is if Belichick gets fired or the Colts cut Manning straight to free agency or something.
