Other schools may notice and come and try to cherry pick our recruits. Sometimes it may be better to fly under the radar.

Also i think alot of star rankings come from a players impact and to have the physical tools to play right away (at least thats how i look at them). I think the reason why alot of the players that we get arent 4 or 5 stars are because they are seen more as projects who need time to develop before they can come in and make an impact. If you look at alot of players that are 4 and 5 stars from last years classes around the country the 4 and 5 stars are the ones that can come in and make an impact right away or at least have the physical attributes and perceived technical skills at this point to at least warrant a shot to compete right away and make an impact. Basically the stars dont matter as much for future potential but rather for players that can play right away. Take the DE position for example if you look at a good deal of the top prospects there most are 240+ and at least 6' 3" if you watch their films they have decent skills as far as using their hands but often play too high which is fixable. Now compare that to a stud 3 star with worlds of potential like claude davis. He needs to add some bulk like some of the other top DE prospects but isnt 240+ like the majority, hes on the short side compared to alot of the kids at the same position where many are taller (which coaches look at because its easy to get taller kids to get more muscle and strength with out losing athleticism because of the size of their frame), Davis makes some REALLY great plays on film but rarely uses his hands effectively but rather just out athletes the players on the other side of the ball with his first step and strength. Basically the way i look at it and in alot (not all of the film/clips i see) 4-5 star is a kid with the height, weight, 40, technical skills to at least have a chance at coming and getting some pt. While 3 stars are kids with very good upside but are either "projects" who need to add weight, greatly improve technical skills, or other factors that they need to work on to become very effective or players that lack proto typical size or speed for their position but are talented never the less. Basically 3 stars have very good potential but need more polish or are lacking a physical attribute to get the 4th and or 5th stars. Thats just the way i look at it atleast, the stars arent gospel for a future potential but rather just a statement to where the particular kid is at in his development as a football player. And yes of course they are going to miss on some kids by either under or overrating them but guess what all the draft experts and NFL player personnel people miss on usually about 1/2 of their draft class and times even more and they have less players to realistically chose from, identifying how a football player will develop is a tricky business.
