So the reward for knocking of #7 team is a game with Rice.

No bowling for Pitt??? And MTSU as an at-large???

Pitt is the victim of NCAA Bylaw 30.9.2.1.-(B).

Since Pitt is 6-6 and MTSU is 7-5, the Motor City Bowl has to take MTSU before they can take Pitt.

Right now it looks like MTSU and Northern Illinois iwll both be 7-5 and not going to a conference bowl.  Louisiana-Lafayette may also be 7-5.  Those are probably the three teams for the two open slots: Poinsettia Bowl (San Diego) & Motor City Bowl (Detroit).

The only way Pitt gets a bowl is if the Big East gets two BCS bids.  Long shot at best.

Yup.  Part of it is finishing tied for 4th place.  Part of it is how poorly USF travels.  (Although I think the win will actually mean more people will travel than were planning on it before.)

Personally, I'm still happy to be going to a bowl game.

Actually, with East Carolina winning tonight (over NC State), I would expect the Pirates to be in Birmingham and the Owls to be in New Orleans.

At least we have some history with ECU!!

I think most people seem to forget that a Rutgers win next week means that USF finishes tied for 3rd place in the Big East...

Yeah, including me...

But I also don't think Rutgers will win next week.

"I wish you guys could be in the locker room and be on the practice field because it is so much different from what it has been in the past."

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
