With the new 5 year labor deal, the yankees get a steal at 13 million for his option vs what he would have gotten on the FA market.

Good move by NY, and if Sheffield is mad, maybe he shouldn't have signed that contract in the first place.  The yanks didn't do anything wrong.

They are. They want to trade him, not drop him into free agency,  so he doesnt end up on the sox or the mets.

i wouldnt call him unproductive, when he is healthy he is still good for around a .300avg, 30+ HR, 100 RBI type numbers ... hardly unproductive

last year at 38 years old he was unproductive

would you pay him 13 million?

would you give him a 3 year deal?

if it was your money i think not

last year he was out for like 100 games due to various injuries, I would not go as high as 13, but probably 10 and make it incentive laden... he is consistent when healthy
