It might not have been...had the White Sox won there would have been a 9th game andf final game.  After 1921 they went back to a best of 7 series.  The teams would agree to the number of games.

It was Game #8...back then they played the best of nine game.  Cincinnati won 5 games to 3 games.

Did you watch the game? If anything bob stanley had the debt he was trying to repay. You do know that the sox had a lead with one out to go when the wheels fell off and by the time buckner had misplayed the ball the mets had already tied the game.  You do know it was in extra innings and the sox had taken a two run lead in top of 10th right? You do know that clemens asked to be taken out of the game early and is the reason the sox had to go to the pen early.  Buckner error was winning run but sox had already imploded with two outs and let mets score two cheap runs and stanley put winning run on third with a wild pitch right before the buckner error.  Buckner should have never even been in the game, I think he was 0-5 and could barely move and should have been taken out for a defensive replacement ala dave stapleton.
