A few things I noticed, that must change:

worst in BE for Penalties

worst in BE for Red Zone Offense

worst in BE for 3rd Down Conversion Defense

worst in BE for Time of Possession

worst in BE in Punting

worst in BE in Field Goal Kicking

These are all correctable, but unexcusable at this point.

at least punting was better last week, def not texbook punting by any means, but better.  i guess the penalties part is somewhat to be expected considering how young we are.  more than anything, that 3rd down conversion defense is what worries me most...sooooo bad.

worst in BE for Penalties - SPECIAL TEAMS

worst in BE for Red Zone Offense - LACK OF RUN GAME (Ponton)/SPECIAL TEAMS

worst in BE for 3rd Down Conversion Defense - ???

worst in BE for Time of Possession - LACK OF RUN GAME (Ponton)

worst in BE in Punting - SPECIAL TEAMS

worst in BE in Field Goal Kicking - SPECIAL TEAMS

If we had a run game our TOP would be MUCH better. I feel it would allow us to be more effective in the red zone as well.

Not to go "smazza" on you, but we have been saying this about the penalties for 10 years!!!!!!  When is our youth going to stop being an excuse for inexcusable penalties? Excessive/unwarranted penalties have been killing us for the past 10 years, and they will continue to be a thorn in our side until the coaches can get this under control. Why don't they see this!?!???!?

im not exactly sure why that has been the blame for inexcusable penalties in the past.  all im saying is that, now, starting as many freshman as we do, you HAVE to expect there to be a larger amount of penalties than if we started all 3rd and 4th yr guys.  its common sense.  obviously, if penalties have been a major issue the last 10 yrs, then coaching is to blame...and im sure thats part of the problem now too.  however, while all the young guys are developing thru the "learning curve", hiccups are definitely expected....not necessarily excusable, but expected nonetheless.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
