Sentimental favorite J.R. Reed is another player worth some extra scrutiny. Reed is unproven only to the extent that he is attempting to come back from career-threatening nerve damage suffered when he impaled his leg on a fence in a freak accident near his home shortly after Super Bowl XXXIX.

Before that, he had become one of the team's most promising young players, taking over the primary kickoff return duties as a rookie in 2004 and looking like a strong possibility to eventually take over at free safety when veteran safety Brian Dawkins walked away.

Now he is a long shot just to make the team, which is why he'll be as excited as ever to get on the field tonight.
