Kohn interested in filling new opening on USF staff

By Compiled from staff and wire reports

Published April 21, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TAMPA - Scott Thompson, USF's director of basketball operations for the past three seasons, has resigned, the second member of Robert McCullum's coaching staff to step down in the past month.

There's a familiar name interested in taking his place courtside. Reggie Kohn, the school's all-time assists leader and now coach at Lake Howell High, talked with McCullum about the job on Tuesday night and is eager to return to USF after a three-year absence.

"It's definitely a position I'd be interested in," said Kohn, 26, who has led Lake Howell to the state Final Four in each of his three seasons. "The job hasn't even been posted yet, but when it is, I'd love the chance to sit down and talk with Coach."

Thompson didn't resign to take a specific job elsewhere, McCullum said, and the Mississippi graduate could be leaving coaching entirely. Julius Allen, one of three assistant coaches, resigned last month, and McCullum said both openings will be officially posted within the next week.

Make this one happen, McCullum. There isnt a more respected name to come out of USF Basketball in the last 10 years.

Besides getting SOJO, you mean MAC might finally do something right in his tenure at USF??

having an USF guy on the staff will help alot in getting players to come here. Reggie will show future and current players what BULL PRIDE is all about.

GET IT DONE MAC >:(

Kohn needs to come here.  Best hire in USF Athletics in the last 3 years if it happens...

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
