Fighting charges against USF receiver Chambers dropped

TAMPA - The state attorney's office will not pursue criminal charges against USF receiver Jackie Chambers for his role in a January campus altercation.

University police had asked that misdemeanor charges of affray, or public fighting, be brought against Chambers, 21, and 27-year-old Cedel Thomassin, who had been staying in Chambers' dormitory room. Neither will face charges, and such a decision is common when cross-complaints are filed against both parties in a fight.

Chambers, a rising junior from Miami Edison, caught 21 passes for 290 yards last season and was USF's punt returner, averaging 11.6 yards on 32 returns.

Seems like our football team has a little bit of a gangster appeal -- although I never hear that criticism from you guys toward CJL.  You all just like to smack huggins over the head for it though.

USF football has never been known as saints.  From fights, to drunk drivers to guys beating up their girlfriends.  Jim Rome put out a stat like 2-3 years ago that our football team fathered something like 50 children.  I dont know if you guys ever seen Boys in the Hood but recruiters usually do not like stuff like that because its keeps their focus off of football.  But if CJL does it he is the man, and no cares about recruiting the "student athlete."

There has often been criticism of the football program when dealing with players that have committed stupid and /or allegedly criminal acts.

I don't think Jackie Chambers had a history when he was recruited by USF.  If he did, it was never made public by our crack reporters at The Times, Trib or Oracle...

Let those of you who did not sin as a 20 yr old, throw the first stone.

Good God Man!  There are a 100 testosterone charged men on USF's football team.  These kids are not recruited b/c they are saints.  USF is not Liberty, Oral Roberts University nor BYU.  They are going to drink, chase skirt, argue, & fight sometimes.  They will make social and legal mistakes.  As long as it's 1-2 kids a semester and doesn't involve guns, drugs, DUI, sexual assault, beating girlfriends or death, its all good IMO.
