Response to Gurly Bull about basketball

Recommended Posts

Collin and Bloomtown,

I agree, they shouldn't allow just anybody down to those high donor seats. my problem is that I am a new (2 years) scholar bull with access to the green and gold room but I can't get a seat in the lower bowl on either side.

I have only one ticket but they still can't find me a place. I'm ready to give up, drop my donation level to one that is applicable to where I sit  and go from there. I have no incentive to give as much as I do. I don't even sit in my assigned seat or use the green and  gold room. I end up sitting where many people sit with walkup tickets.

The only reason I increased my donation in the first place was to get better seats for BE basketball. If they had a ticket exchange program (through the Green and Gold or Bulls Club) then I could get down to the first level for many games. Heck I wouldn't mind being a floater.

I bet if you guys could turn in your tickets to get 1st level side views you would be willing to do it. Then the next level of donor could trade for yours, etc, etc. This would ensure fans and donors sitting as close as they can for the games.

No tickets would be traded in for big games. lots of tickets for lousy games. Top level donors could use bottom level donors left over tickets to donate to the Boys and Girls Club and get a tax writeoff giving them an incentive to turn in unused tickets.

Next year they should have more lower seating. So you should be able to grab a lower seat next season.

I'd like to see you sell that concept to a $5,000 or $10,000 dollar donor. ::)

If they aren't gonna show up, why not get thier permission when the season tix are sold to allow this to happen.  Again, it's additional revenue for the AD which in the long run benefits the fans.  Did you not see the Duke@NC game last nite?  If USF had half of that the games would be 10 times more fun to go to.  USF needs to do something to bring excitem't to the Sun Dome.  Getting the lower lvl 90% full would help the atmosphere tremendously IMO.

These alums investing in season BB tix now so you'll have them when the team is good and not showing up needs to be corrected.  I have been paying for FB season for 9 seasons now under the pretense that in the future the tix will be gone but I GO TO ALL OF THE GAMES even the crappy D1AA games.

If 100 tix are sold at $12 each game (15).  $12 is half price for half a game.  That's $18,000 with minimal effort but if it creates a better atmosphere which generates an extra 1000-1500 showi up to the games then its worth it.

Do you think people will drop, why do you think they should have more seating in the lower level and I think when talking about lower level people are referring to the section at mid court not behind the basket.

Its personal preference, I could have gotten seats behind the basket but chose to sit in the 3rd row 2nd level at mid-court I personally like that view better.

You can not resell what someone has paid for. If USF was to resell my tix. And by luck I showed up with anytime left in the game. I would fully expect to be compensated beyond the price of the ticket.

It is one thing if the donors know they won't be at a particular game and would volunteer to have their seats put into a pool of available tickets.  If the donor wants to have their seats given away for a particular game... great.  But I'm with Bloomtown... my seat is my seat.   I try to go to all of the games, but sometimes things come up and I can't make it.  If someone sits in my seat, they are getting what I paid good money for at a supreme discount.  I don't like that.

I like the idea of having a full lower level, but that will come when the product improves.  The seats are paid for and that is the most important thing right now.

Green,

I just checked, and we do have single season tickets available behind the basket in the lower bowl at your gift level.  Courtside seats require a larger gift than Scholar Bull, but I sit behind the basket and I like my seats.

In fact, if you shoot me an email (csherwin@admin.usf.edu), I'll give you my pair for this evening so you can check out sitting down there.

Collin:

Bloomtown said seats are gonna open up in the lower level mid-court section next yr, does he know something we do not know?? I was told they have been sold out and the only way to get seats there would be for someone to drop. But then as someone mentiond there are scholar bulls and higher sitting in level 2 because no seats on the lower leve, care to comment?

Seats would open up when they add more seats to the lower level.

I don't think they would open up with current layout now.
