EX-CANE HIRED: At Oxford, Miss., Mississippi hired former Miami offensive coordinator Dan Werner as its offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Werner was one of four Hurricanes assistants fired last week by coach Larry Coker in the aftermath of a 40-3 loss to LSU in the Peach Bowl.

"Dan Werner brings a wealth of experience and leadership to Ole Miss," Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron said.

Not sure it would have been an improvement. UM offense got by on talent alone in recent years and most of it was wasted.

Worse yet. Werner was responsible for Tampa Bay area recruiting for Miami. He still has those ties.

Expect to see some Bay area athletes going to Ole Miss in the coming years.

The speed at which he was hired lends me to believe that ole miss was looking at him the second the canes showed him the door.

That said, USF needs to get it in gear and get good offensive personnel in here.
