Tampa, Fla. Jan. 2, 2023  South Florida women’s basketball (9-5, 1-0) is set to ring in the new year against Charlotte (8-5, 1-0) on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Tipoff at the Yuengling Center is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game will air live on ESPNU.

SETTING THE STAGE

The Bulls roll into January as winners of five of their last six contests. The 49ers, who are new to the AAC this year, head to Tampa as victors in three of their last four games. Wednesday night marks USF’s first TV game of the year. Tiffany Greene and Brooke Weisbrod will call the action on ESPNU.

THE SOUTH FLORIDA-CHARLOTTE SERIES

Charlotte holds a 20-9 all-time advantage against South Florida and the series extends back to the 1979-80 season. The Bulls have captured two of the last three clashes with the 49ers. USF captured the most recent pairing, 68-59, in Tampa (Feb. 7, 2005) nearly 19 years ago.

LAST TIME OUT

Freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh put up 16 points and netted three of four total 3-pointers in the final frame in South Florida 70-61 conference-opening win against SMU Saturday night. The Guard grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists, and grabbed a single steal against the Mustangs. Blasigh’s performance earned her the third AAC Freshman of the Week Honor of the season. Blasigh has recorded nine double-figure point games so far this year and is on a two-contest hot streak with back-to-back 16-point performances. Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt added an impressive 14 points, and eight rebounds, to go along with two assists, and a pair of steals, which earned her a spot on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dished out seven assists and became the 13th player to dish out over 400 assists in American Athletic Conference history.

BULL LEADERS

South Florida is paced by Blasigh with a 13.9 scoring average. Blasigh (39 3PM) is ranked 13th nationally in total 3-pointers made. Sophomore wing Carla Brito (9.9 ppg.) leads on the glass with 7.6 rebounds per contest, which ranks sixth in the American. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dishes out a team-best 4.2 assists per contest. Wilson’s 59 total assists ranks third in the American.
