USF's Dickson gets Big East honors

Tampa, FL (November 28, 2005) – University of South Florida (5-0) women’s basketball standout Jessica Dickson (Ocala, FL) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 28.

Dickson, and All-America candidate, helped the Bulls go 3-0 last week while averaging an impressive 28.3 points per game and seven rebounds per contest. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the Best Western Roundball Classic after netting 33 points against Maryland-Baltimore County (66-56 win) on Nov. 26, and 32 points the next day against Robert Morris (83-58 win) in the title game.

During the week, Dickson shot 46.9 percent (28-61) from the field, 40 percent (8-20) from behind the three-point arc, and 95.5 percent (21-22) from the charity stripe.

On the year, Dickson is leading the BIG EAST in scoring netting 25.4 points per game and is third on the team in rebounding grabbing 7.4 per outing. She is shooting 49.5 percent (45-91) from the field, including 44.4 percent (12-27) from behind the three-point arc, and 89.3 percent (25-28) from the free throw line.

USF will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 2 when it faces North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels are currently ranked No. 7 in the current Associated Press and No. 8 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 polls.

The Bulls will return home for their inaugural BIG EAST Conference game on Wed. Dec. 7 when they face No. 17/17 DePaul at 7 p.m. in the Sun Dome.
